Overall, A Nice Piece Of Technology If You Want A

Overall, a nice piece of technology if you want a semi-pro camera but don't want to shell out a fortune.

This Panasonic is costlier than your usual mini DV camcorders but so far my experience has been great.

would recommend it to anyone.

Although The Panasonic Nv-gs400eb Is An Extremely

Although the Panasonic NV-GS400EB is an extremely capable top-of-the-range model, this mini-DV camcorder is a mixture of the good and bad as listed above, plus the slow warranty repair service offered by Panasonic is particularly inexcusable as I bought this UK-model camcorder brand new from a Panasonic dealer in Bracknell: the same town as Panasonic's UK HQ & repair centre! I persuaded the salesman to knock the price of this NV-GS400EB down to £1050, well below RRP, but some mail-order dealers did them for slightly less.

It's 5th March, 2007 and I got my NV-GS400EB back from the repairer today (Vidicam, the agent for Domestic & General, who I took an extended warranty out with when Panasonic's 12 month guarantee ran out) after submitting it to them three months ago on December 6th.

This time the fold-out LCD screen had packed in (again) and the mechanism kept fast-forwarding and rewinding, instead of playing and recording!

This camcorder is exactly 70 weeks old today. The first repair (under Panasonic's warranty) took 58 days, the second repair took 89 days, making a total of 147 days (21 weeks) that I've been without this camcorder due to breakdowns.

Put it another way, it has spent 30% of its 1 year and 4 month life being repaired and waiting for parts. If someone had a car with a 3-year warranty that was this unreliable, I expect they would've been given a new car. Hopeless.
