Went With This Company For My Car Insurance As The

Went with this company for my car insurance as their quote was the lowest on Compare the Market. Unfortunately after signing up and paying, and with the insurance already in place, they emailed to say there was "something they needed to check" so we had to call them. They then proceeded to tell us that there was an "at fault" claim for one of the named drivers back in 2019, which was a total lie as the driver never made such claim and their current policy clearly shows 5 years no claim, as we had honestly declared in the application.

They tried to say this non-existent claim would raise the premium by £65! Naturally I said they can keep their policy and that I wanted to cancel while still within the cooling off period, so I can go with the next cheapest provider on the Compare the Market list which was only £15 more expensive, but hopefully more honest.

I was charged a £25 cancellation fee which was ridiculous, but I paid it on principle.

Clearly their tactic is to lure you in with the cheapest quote and then make something up to increase the premium once they've got you.

I'm surprised by all the positive reviews on other sites, but most are probably fake, or maybe they just choose to rip off the occasional customer. Well they won't have my well earned money, but they can have this 1 star review instead. And there's more coming. So for the £25 they got from me, they'll get a lot of bad publicity. Terrible business sense.

They are a total rip-off company and I'll complain to Compare the Market about them.

Stay clear!

After weeks of exchanging emails I have decided to cancel my new car insurance with Swinton

Firstly I cannot understand why they asked for so much proof of existance just for a cheap insurance on a cheap run around car

We have been getting car insurance for 45 years with lots of different cars and different insurance companies

We have never felt like we were being interrogated as we have with Swinton

We were asked for photos ( back and front ) of both driving licences

Digital PDF versions of both our driving licences downloaded from the government website

Photos of page one and page two of the V5C document proving we owned the car

A utility bill from the previous three months proving we live at the address on the policy, Which was clearly shown on both driving licences and the V5C

A typing error on the original application showed our street name twice

On the cars V5C it showed the correct address with only one street name on it

We were informed that Swintons FRAUD SQUAD were looking into this

Perhaps if the call centre had been in the UK the staff would have realised this simple error,,,,when I tried to explain this to the call centre person she either couldn't or wouldn't accept that all they had to do was delete a line of text on the policy

After three vweeks of frustration I have cancelled this new policy and to add insult to injury they have charged me a £50 administration fee !!!!!

I will never deal with Swinton again and I will be advising anyone I can never to have anything to do with them !!!

Never Use Again

Had to sell my motorbike due to ill health. Phoned Swinton to cancel my policy to be told I had to pay them £40. Had motor insurance for over 30 years and never have I come across such blatant profiteering in my life. Do not use this company.

Shambolic Company

A dreadful company to do business with. Each person you to talk to is very pleasant and plausible but unfortunately cannot carry through on promises as the next time you phone it's to another person with a different idea on a solution to the problem. Now on my tenth person, so that's ten different answers but still no resolution. If only I had read the dreadful reviews before I started on this outrageous journey.

I Had A Car Accident Last Wed (6th September 2017)

I had a car accident last Wed (6th September 2017). It was my fault. I phoned Swinton to report it and ask them what to do. The guy on the phone said I would be phoned back within 4 hours by 1) a garage to arrange delivery or pick up and 2) enterprise cars to arrange a courtesy car. No phone calls. I phoned enterprise...they said Swinton don't know what they're talking about...so I phoned the garage...errm ummm send us some photos they said, we have no courtesy cars here...I tried to phone Swinton back-no answer-kept me waiting 1.5 hours. Roll on till today. No word from garage. Not able to get through to Swinton. No courtesy car. I went to a local garage today who declared my car 'not roadworthy'. Having it sorted tomorrow. Myself. Says it all. Why am I paying £60 a month> Abysmal.

Absolutely Terrible Service

I am not surprised that there are so many one star ratings for Swinton I would give them no stars if possible. They are fine and efficient in providing a quote just don't have an accident!

I had a no claim no blame accident. Suddenly Swinton are no longer my insurers but just my brokers. They take responsibility for nothing and out source all the various issues to different companies who don't speak to each other or Swinton, don't come back to you and don't explain what's happening.

My car is written of I get a new one and no surprise don't insure it with Swinton who won't give me evidence of no claims despite the car being written off and in a yard and then the final rip off- they won't refund me for the rest of the year for my written of car because I've insured my new car with someone else.

Dreadful Dreadful experience- avoid at all costs.

Please Don't Use These Incompetents

A middle man in insurance, you pay someone else an extra cut, check a little and you find you get insurance from the same company cheaper online.

If you have a problem and complain you will enjoy the response to your complaint...... "Im glad we were able to resolve your complaint. sincerely Swineton"

and after using them for 3 different insurances over 8 years when I needed a bit of help..... nothing.

Cancelled My Policy Even Though Paid In Full

Do not go with this company, I have been with them on and off since the 80's so you think they would know me, then I find they cancel my policy renewal charging me £100.00 because the underwriter could not verify me electronically, they have known me 30 years.

Stay away they have not got a clue and have lost a loyal customer and do not care.

Appalling Bad Claims Department

Do not insure with this company. The firm they use to deal with claims is utterly useless. I was involved in a minor accident which was not my fault. It took over two months to get my car fixed. Swinton wanted a repairer which was a long way from my home to do the job and they wouldn't agree to pick the car up and exchange for a courtesy car where I work. I took numerous phone calls to eventually sort it out. Every time I spoke to a different person who didn't seem to know anything about my case. I had many promises to ring be back but this never happened. I made an official complaint which eventually resulted in a rather lukewarm letter of apology but no explanation of why it had taken so long to deal with my case.

Shameful

Appalling customer service in Sunderland branch. I made a formal complaint to Swintons' national complaints team who dealt with it in a very prompt and professional manner however feedback was no action would be taken by manager of branch.
