Jet Sym 2011 Model

So i brought my brand new sym bike, for my birthday and have tested it on private land, i am 16 in 9 days, doing my CBT in 11. From my "test" drive it was amazing, very comfortable, easy to manoeuvre and very fast, it has fantastic MPG and hardly costs anything to fill up. It looks extremely nice, especially for the "younger" rider, it looks very sporty and its speed just enforces this. Ive seen it called Jet 4, Jet 50 etc, so im just sticking with Jet Sym. There isn't much not to like about it, apart from you will loose a lot of friends because they are so jealous of it! ;D So to wrap up; brilliant bike, good in fields, and in and out of the city enjoy everyone!!!!

I Have Owned My Sym Jet Euro X For 2 Months Now I'

i have owned my sym jet euro x for 2 months now I've done about 6,000 miles on it already and it has never let me down i'm getting about 45mph out of it which isn't bad seeing as i have only put a vaper exhaust on it. i get 126 miles off a tank of petrol and costs about £6 to fill it up.

Sym Jet 4 50cc

Hi.

I bought my 16 year old son a new Sym Jet 4 50cc bike in March and have had two bolts fall off it already. The first was on the exhaust and caused the exhaust to drag along the road. This was 3 months ago and the part still hasn't come from Sym to have it fixed.

The second was last night. My lad's back brake failed to work on his way home. Luckily, he was stuck in traffic and was only doing 10mph. When his brake didn't work he pulled the front one on in a panic and ended up losing the back of the bike and skidding along the road. He has a chunk out of his knee and grazed his right side but this could have been so much worse.

As a mother i'm so angry. The dealership tells me that it's design fault and i am ready for a massive argument with Sym but i wondered if anyone else has experienced anything similar??

I'll be out this weekend buying leather trousers now to go with his jacket.

Thanks

Lin

I have one at the moment and my exaused cover came off when I was turning a corner coming out the petrol station, I also have a lot of problems with the sum jet 4 50cc. I have had this bike 6 months and I have broke down twice now. I wouldn't recomend this bike to anyone it's just not a very reliable bike.

I lost that same bolt ur talking about from going down a pot hole also my exhaust snapped in half I had the bikei2weeks which cost me a grand. Last time I ever get a sym bike but what do u expect of a Taiwan import also 1week before that the stand literally fell off just from taking it off stand but somehowy warrenty dosent cover anything

bmw e30

10mph and he skidded along the road???? r u sure? he should be using both brakes anyway as the rear brake is only about 25% efficient of the front, doesn't add up if u ask me....

Guest

A bolt came out of my exhaust too, after only having it for 3 or 4 months. Obviously a fault in their design?

Guest

Whether my son was doing 10mph or 70mph brakes should not fail on a new bike and the attitude from the Sym dealership is disgraceful. I work for a Peugeot dealership and we would insist a car was brought to the dealership immediately and repaired that day if there was a safety issue with a vehicle. My other son most definately will not be having a Sym bike.

Sym Jet Euro X 50 Scooter

I was looking for a cheap & reliable scoot to use for getting to work & back, I had owned a Gilera before & was not impressed with it's unreliable behaviour! I looked at alternative machines which were of Chinese & Taiwanese origin. I was put off by the build quality, well lack of, with the Chinese built machines so settled for a 2004 Sym Jet Euro X 50. The difference between the Gilera and the Sym was apparent on the first wet morning I needed to go to work, the Sym fired up first time as it had done in previous week's and happily motored along to wrk & back as it always did. The ride is stable and comfortable enough, I had a ride out on her one afternoon and was on her for over 2 hours. She had no complaints being used for this amount of time, mostly at full throttle and after the ride I wasn't stiff or aching. The build quality is very good and would rival it's Japanese counterparts in my opinion, of the finishing touches such as trim, dials and so on aren't quite as snazzy as other manufacturers but everything is there that you need and does it's job very well indeed. The economy is fantastic as you would expect from a 50cc, mine was deristricted and could manage a steady 45mph on the flat. If I'm being picky (very picky) I did notice that the quality of steel used on the exhaust silencer wasn't brilliant and surface rust appeared very quickly, I just treated this every month or so with a wire brush & some new paint to keep it looking good cosmetically more than anything. The overall appearance of the scoot is nice, it's probably the best looking model that Sym have produced. Earlier Sym Jet's were a bit basic & bland in appearance but this one was sculpted very nicely.

Sadly mine was stolen after 9 months of ownership, due to the impressive build and reliability it was replaced with a TGB 202. This is another Taiwanese built scoot, the reliability and build was pretty much equal to the Sym. I would have loved another Sym Jet Euro X but there was nothing local & I needed transport for work so the TGB was what I went for, I wasn't disappointed with either!

If you are looking for a commuter, first time scoot or just something to potter about on these scoots are fantastic and can be found at much more affordable prices than their Italian & Japanese counterparts. Parts are available for both Sym & TGB through various UK dealers and online. All in all the Sym was and is a great little scoot that will serve you well, provide cheap and more importantly, reliable transport. I would advise buying one with low miles or one that has been cared for and has some receipts to show it's been serviced and maintained. Regardless of how well something is built is should be maintained to keep it in good health, check for damage as well. Alot of scoots are used by less experienced riders and as a result, can suffer with cosmetic damage. Check all panels are secure and free from damage, handlebars are straight and there's no nasty rattles or knocks. These are good little machines and are fantastic value.

Q&A

Summers28

My son has a Sym Jet 50 C Sport. It has an issue with the speedometer - it doesn't work! We have tried changing the cable and the digital dashboard and it's still not working.

Anyone got any thoughts please?
