I Think The Book Called The Worst Witch Was A Litt

I think the book called The Worst Witch was a little interesting but I think the book should be for younger people like 5 to 9 years old. Because it just like Harry Potter but in Harry Potter it has boys and girls but in The Worst Witch it only has girls. But Mildred was a good character in the book, I think Mildred was my favourite charter. Because she always get blamed for everything, like when they had to show their flying to the whizzed but when they where pricing Mildred broom stick broke. So Miss Hard Broom asked Elth to get her new one that she got for her birthday but behind Mildred's back she did a spell on the broomstick so Mildred tried it out it was fine but when the whizzed came then the broomstick went crazy then she fell off. Then Miss Hard Broom was angry so Mildred wrote a letter home and asked if her mum can come and get her. Then she flyed off on her broomstick, then the next day she came back with a box and inside the box it was snails but they weren't normal snails, they were angry witch snails. Then Miss Cackle asked for one snail that was her mean sister to step formed and one snail did then Miss Cackle turned them back into witches again then the whole school was having a break.

I Think Jill Murphy's The Worst Witch Books Are Mo

I think Jill Murphy's the worst witch books are more innocent than Harry Potter series, I am definaetely sure J K Rowling got a few ideas from jill Murphy but nothings original! There are both good.

Jill Murphy Has Written A Truly Delightful Set Of

Jill Murphy has written a truly delightful set of novels for kids (I'd say 4 to 7 year old level) starting with The Worst Witch which was published in 1975, before Harry Potter was even a twinkle in the eye. I bought it for a little friend of mine for £3.99 and when I gave it to her she asked no end of questions which I tried my very best to answer:

'So what's it all about, Auntie Kirsty..?'

Well, it's about Mildred Hubble. Mildred is in Year 1 and really is the worst witch at Miss Cackle's Academy for witches. She's always getting her spells and potions wrong, and she even crashed her broomstick on her very first day! Mildred really doesn't mean to get into trouble it's just that somehow things always seem to happen whenever she is around.

Miss Cackle's Academy is a rather formal affair, with all the girls in black or grey and the old traditions strongly adhered to. One such tradition is the presentation of kittens - the gift of a little black kitten for every girl to teach to ride on the back of her broomstick. Mildred and her best pal Maud are very excited about getting a kitten and queue up eagerly at the end of a long line of girls in the Great Hall to receive their furry friends. But, oh dear: by the time Mildred gets to the front of the queue there is only one kitten left and he's not exactly black!

'So is Mildred like me, Auntie Kirsty..?'

Well of course Mildred gets into lots more trouble than you, but she is like you in lots of ways. She's about your age and most importantly, she has to go to school everyday and sometimes things don't go so well for her. She has a best friend called Maud whose friendship she knows she can rely on but there is another girl called Ethel who plays a really nasty prank on her. Mildred has to get her head around a lot of things, just like you do at school really.

'What does she call her kitten, Auntie Kirsty?'

She calls her new kitten Tabby, but the kitten isn't very good at hanging onto the broomstick when they fly so she puts him in her satchel and loops that onto her broomstick with him in it instead!

Poor old Mildred and Tabby get into terrible trouble the night of the Halloween celebrations during their much-practiced formation flying. It really isn't Mildred's fault that some nasty girl has put a spell on her broomstick to make it fly all wibbly-wobbley but that is exactly what happens!

'Does she get told off, Auntie Kirsty?'

Oh, poor Mildred knows that she really will get told off tomorrow when she has to see the head teacher. She knows that nobody will believe it wasn't her fault that the broomstick went all mad, because she is always getting into trouble for things just like this! Luckily, because it is so late at night, their meeting has to wait until the following day. In the meantime Mildred hatches a plan of escape.

'Hooray! Does she get away, Auntie Kirsty?'

There's only one way to find out

'Quick will you read it to me, Auntie Kirsty?'

No, no, no: if you want to know what happens you are just going to have to read it yourself!

And so she did.

This was the first "proper" novel that my little friend read all the way through by herself: all 107 pages! It made the perfect stepping stone between the big bedtime story books and the rather austere paperback novel format because it is written in large text and has lots of illustrations, also by Jill Murphy. It's great to think that this is just the start of a whole series of The Worst Witch books for her to discover.

I was surprised by the old-fashioned names of the characters in a novel that does use very up to date language and really hasn't noticeably dated in any other obvious way. It is so very clear to us with the arrival of Meg and Mog, not to mention Mr H Potter that witchcraft and wizardry seem to reliably keep the little ones fascinated, but this is also a slightly moral tale as everything comes good in the end and we have all learnt a little lesson about the importance of friendship and how to face out tricky and "unfair" situations.

I First Read The Worst Witch Back In 1982 And Was

I first read the Worst Witch back in 1982 and was completely captivated. At the time only the first two books were available and by the time the third one was published I was well and truly hooked.

I could completely identify with the skinny awkward Mildred Hubble and her long plaits.

Now 21 years later I am reading the first book with my six year old son, who has also had some Harry Potter read to him. The Worst Witch books are much simpler, in a good way, and he now prefers Mildred's adventures to Harry's. His big question now is, "will there be anymore more books?"!!!

Jill Murphy The Worst Witch Strikes Again, Th

Jill Murphy The Worst Witch strikes again,

This paticular book is just one of my favourites as Mildred has a chance to show her responsibilty of a new- girl named Enid Nightshade. Enid went to a dat-witch school and moved due to flying there and back. Enid at first was quiet, But meeting Mildred Hubble she changed to a nice but strict young witch. Like on the programme " Monkey Business" Enid Nightshade has enough of Ethel Hallow and decides to use a spell she used at day witch school and send the background crashing down on the evil witch. This book also shows that just because you have been given a responsibilty never forget other things. Like when Mildred was told to show Enid Nightshade around the school Mildred didn't have time to stay with Maud Moonshine.Well I think it was a fantastic and magical story.

I Think Both The Worst Witch By Jill Murphy And Ha

I think both the worst witch by jill murphy and harry potter by. J.k. rowling are very original.

I've read both of the series and I reckon that each of them has got its own imaginative features that are in no way similar to the other.

I Believe Harry Potter And The Worst Witch Are Two

I believe Harry Potter and the Worst Witch are two excellent series of books. They have many differences and some similarities - but they are each unique and individual in their own way.

The Worst Witch series by Jill Murphy is an excellent read and I recommend it to anyone - witch fan or not.

I would just like to say, for those of you who believe The Worst Witch is a copy of Harry Potter - you are mistaken. Jill Murphy's the Worst Witch was written years before Harry Potter - but this does NOT mean J.K Rowling copied the idea of a witchcraft school.

So please do not compare these books and say that one of the authors have copied because they have not. They may be both about witches, wizards and magic, but if you actually took the time to read them both you will see that they are very different.
