10+ Years On And Still As Good As Day One !
Having read some of the recent negative Reviews I felt its worth completing a review for treatment done in 2001 in Newcastle upon Tyne Ulralase near the High Level bridge.. Since having lasik treatment in 2001 I have never looked back as ive saved a fortune in not needing glasses Or contact lenses and the expence of both. £ 200 a year !!
I know its a long time ago and I was 51 when I had Lasik and now aged 63 the sight is just as good as the day it was done. Since then probably, technology has moved on, but I have to say its the best £1500 I have spent and i never need glasses for driving, still not too bad for reading either. Like anything major in live its a minor risk, same as going to the dentist but less painfull so If you are thinking about geting it done go for it. Understand all the facts and think it through first and im sure you will arrive at the right decision for you./

They Only Want Your Money - Please Read This!!
I had lasek in 2010 following a convincing consultation & promises that this would change my life etc etc. Since the procedure i have needed 10 emergency procedures, hospitalized for 5 days, nearly lost sight in right eye & been told that i will be on medication for the rest of my life. I am currently being looked after by the royal Glamorgan hospital, who have been like modern day angels. I owe so much to them considering a so called reputable company (in my opinion) botched up & now effected the way i live. I have entered into a legal battle with ultralase as their aftercare compassion does not exist. Very worrying. I would not recommend stepping through the door let alone part with nearly £4k of my hard earned cash.
Do Not Trust Them-read This Before Booking
Had surgery year and a half ago, this procedure did not work. Despite there excellent sales pitch that to prevent any problems you were covered for life, this is not the case. They have been taken over by Optimax and surprise they now have removed there aftercare service. Eventhough when you ring it is still answered as Ultralase it is now Ultralase Eye Clinics. Directors must be sitting pretty in there big houses whilst the mere mortals are stuffed paying off thousands for something that hasnt worked. DO NOT USE TAKE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ELSEWHERE I WOULDNT TRUST OPTIMAX EITHER.
Both myself and son had laser just before they went into administration ...my son now needs to have a revamp for night driving but has to pay again ...cant figure out if this is a ploy on behalf of Ultralase cancelling their life time guarantee so people have to pay again if extra surgery is needed...this company should be taken to court I am sure lots of people have been robbed of their lifetime guarantee...In the past Optimax had a bad name so am very wary about any further treatment.......

I So Regret Having Treatment.
I had Vue+ which is a procedure to remove the need for reading glasses. It didn't work for me and left me with an unpleasant haze and after more than a year of being told it would improve I had the lens removed. My sight has deteriorated and I believe this is due to the invasive nature of the procedures. It is very hard to get a satisfactory response from them when things go wrong and I have spent thousands of pounds, lost work from constant appointments and my sight is now worse than before.
They have now been taken over by Optimax and service in my opinion is worse.
I wish I had remembered that the pre-sales consultation is just that pre-SALE. These people are selling a procedure with all the usual sales tactics.

Freedom From Glasses
I had laser surgery on June the 8th 2013. It is the best thing I have ever spent my money on. I had considered this for a few years. I had done a lot of research, at the end of the day there is a risk in any medical procedure. I looked at optical express and ultra lase. One day in July I got home from work to find an offer from ultra lase to do my eyes ultra Elite for £2000. I was on the phone instantly. My mind was made up to do this. This was a saving of over £2000 pounds. I no that Ultralase had merged with optimax and I had read a few negative reviews, this did not put me off.
I booked the consultation at the Chelmsford clinic in July I had already put a deposit and a date to have it done before I had the consultation. The clinic is a clean and modern feel to it they had a good coffee machine. The staff are very friendly and professional . I was put at ease straight away. There is no pressure to have it done by the staff. More pressure on myself I I was committed to have this done.
Consultation I found to be interesting not that worried about it. Lots of flashing laser lights and modern computers. I was told they could do it, that was a big relief as I no they can not do every ones for medical reasons etc. I was told I would have the same sort of vision as wearing my glasses. That was fine with me. I could not read the 20/20 line when I did the various eye chart test.
I had the laser surgery on the Saturday. Mixed emotions mainly excitement and nerves. 5 of us sitting waiting for the surgery. No one likes waiting. The surgeon was very well qualified doing NHS cataract work. 15 years laser surgery. All this information was given to me in the consultation.
You speak to him before hand he was very good answered questions explained what was going to happen.
By the way I have been wearing glasses for 25 years. Eyes averagely bad. Left -3.25 right -3.
The surgery is painless you do not feel a thing. It took about 15 to 20 minutes to do the procedure. That's it its done.
When I came out my vision was misty like being in a sauna. The pain was for about 1/2 hours in my eyes more a stinging. But easy to deal with. I was expecting worse in the pain front.
When I got home within an hour the mist had gone. I could see all the photos on my wall in great detail. They were a big blur before.
I went to the surgery Sunday morning. Standard practice with eye surgery. On the way I could read all the street sighs and car number plates which was a first for me. Taken by a taxi firm. It is against the law to drive until you have the surgeons say so.
Went in the Ultralase where there were about 9 people waiting to have their eyes checked. All wearing black sun glasses looked like a blues brothers convention.
The eye specialist checked my eyes a little blood shocked but that is normal. I read the eye chart like looking in HD. For me I had an even bigger surprise I could read the bottom line which was 20/20 vision. The women said i had achieved better results than they expected which was a great result for me icing on the cake.
You have to put drops in for 2 weeks wear these eye guards its straight forward and goes quickly.
I have been two 2 other check ups in this time. My eyes have got even better. Colours are vibrant . My vision has never ever been good as this even when I was younger which is amazing. The staff and service I have had at Ultralase has been the best I have had. I was lucky I got excellent results with no problems it went smoothly text book.
I had this done I am 40. I would have had it done at 30 but did not have the money or not sure about the procedure then. If you are sitting on the fence go and have it done. Laser surgery is the best it has been the risks are minor these days. The thing is I have a check up in October then the last one 1 year from know that's it then. I have a lifetime guarantee if my eyes got bad say in 6 years, they would re treat them. I would have no problem doing the procure again.
Hi there, I am considering treatment with ultralase. Just wondered if you have a refer a friend code that I could use when booking consultation?
Thanks.
Sorry I don't agree with you on this. When I had my eyes done ultralase had been taken over by optimax. So I was a new customer. I have read reviews where people were not happy with the service and various problems when people had the eyes done when it was just ultralase. I think it's more to do with this for you. Optimax had not taken over by then when you had it done. It's not right that it is not valid for you. But I assure you I have the life time guarantee. Let's hope you get your problems sorted out. But if I was in your position I would take no for an answer.
just to let you know the life time guarantee is no longer valid !! I had mine done eighteen months ago, have problems now and thats it tough luck, your on your own still paying off the original cost. Cannot afford to start the procedure again.
Awful - Would Not Recommend
Waited 28 days so far for a response as to why despite numerous phone calls and e-mails. To build yourself up for an operation to be cancelled just before is unacceptable. I have been very polite asking why and waiting but they do not seem interested in giving any response. I am passed from pillar to post. I would not recommend. They also originally quoted me £1000 more than my final price. It seems it has a double glaze sales approach to the price.

Shockingly Bad!
I had laser surgery about 10 years ago with Ultralase in Guildford and since I was pleased with the treatment and result I returned to them this year when I wanted to have treatement for age onset long sightendness.
On consultation I was persuaded that IOL rather than mono-vision would be the best treatment for me. A few weeks later I plucked up the courage to book the op which was to take place in Harley Street. As the eyes have to be done at least one week apart and they recommend that you do not travel home alone, I made all the arrangements for friends to take me and nervously awaited the day, having cleared my diary for the 2 weeks post op as you are unable to wear any eye make up. About a week before the op, I was rung to say that the appointment time had to be changed to an earlier time of 3pm in the day; this was very inconvenient but I made the arrangements. I had a sleepless night before the op worrying about it. Then at 11am ON THE DAY OF THE SURGERY I was rung by Harley St to be told that the surgeon recommended that I have mono-vision as I was not suitable for IOL! It is 7 weeks later and despite having rung both Guildford and head office, and having written a letter of complaint to whom I was told was the appropriate person, I have not heard A THING. NO-ONE has ever contacted me to explain why it was not cancelled until the day or even to apologise for the incredible inconvenience, not to mention expense - my friends had taken days off work to take me and I had already paid up front for the treatment, which I had to then spend time trying to get back!!!
I cannot believe that a company can have such bad practices and I shall never use them again and I recommend that you go elsewhere.
Sounds about right for Ultralase. I had ICL surgery in Dec2011 and need top up laser treatment. Since the merger with Optimax in Dec 2012 I have now been told I am no longer suitable. I'm getting a second opinion and I then intend to take this further. I feel very let down by Ultralase and Optimax for a terrible after care service.

Wavefront Lasik At Ultralase Guildford
Yesterday morning, I woke as usual, fumbled for my glasses and prepared for my big day!
Today I sit here typing less than 24 since my operation with 20:20 vision- truely lifechanging!!!
I had my initial consultation in Optimax Brighton, but the dates they had for surgery were not suitable, so opted for my next most local clinic Ultralase Guildford.
When I arrived I was greated by friendly staff who showed me to the waiting room offering tea/coffee, and waited in anticipation. After a couple of routine checks, I was sent to wait to speak to the surgeon Dr Ayoubi, he clearly outlined the risks but in perspective, I was prepared to take them.
So time for the surgery, I was in and out inside 20 minutes- 1 machine pealed back my cornea on both eyes-(the scariest part, as at that point you can see shades of light but you have no sight) then onto the second machine which is the laser- 14 seconds on 1 eye, 15 on the other and it was all over, each eye was cleaned before the corneas were replaced, and then it was done.
I sat up (and although blury) I could see. My prescription before surgery was -5.25 and -5.75- on the way home, it was quite uncomforable, but a couple of the drops they supplied from time to time fixed it.
By bedtime last night, things were getting much clearer, by this morning- amazing- just wish I had done it sooner....
hmm, shame this cannot be reviewed and regraded, since having the surgery, I now suffer exceptional dry eyes and night vision is a disaster with halos everywhere, but by far the biggest disappointment, is that my vision is not correct. measuring between -0.25 and -0.5, I now have to wait to see what happens next....
I'm glad you got good results I had laser surgery not long ago and got 20:20 vision. I guess we are lucky. Seem to be some negative reviews with unhappy results.

Do Not Provide Laser Top Up After Iol
Very disappointed by the utter lack of after care service.
I had my surgery in Liverpool Dec 2011. Thought 2012 went for all follow up appointments and was told that as my prescription was now small I would be able to have top up laser to sharpen up the blurred distant vision I have.
I had IOL because my cornea are thin and I have RA.
Howerever as I have said after my surgery I was repeatedly told I could have top up laser surgery.
After months of being messed around I was booked to attend the Chestet clinic last Saturday. A few hours before my appointment they phoned to say don't bother coming as they would not carry out the top up due to my RA.
Then they told me to go for the check up appointment on Saturday which I attended. I had an eye exam without any drops to dilate my pupils and was told my sight had improved more and that there was no scar tissue so I would not need any Yag treatment. Although how this can be determined without dilation is questionable.
I was told by someone from customer service would call me this week to tell me what would be happening. Needless to say I haven't been called
Since the merger Optimax Ultralase has completely lost all duty of care. I am extremely dissapointed and will be advising anyone who is contemplating laser surgery to not bother. I will also be taking this mater further.
Lasik Wavefront Only Yesterday!!! Thrilled!!
After 20 years of wearing glasses I finally decided to get my eyes lasered. I went to three free consultations at optical express, Potomac and ultralase. Ultralase seemed far superior in terms of after are and after a few weeks I booked. The op was yesterday at 2pm and by 4pm my sight was tested and i had 20/20 vision already. By 7pm after some discomfort and blurred vision, I could see. Well I slept well in my eye shields and woke this morning to amazingly clear vision, vision I did not think was possible, I can see birds on branches of distant trees. This is the clearest I've ever been able to see in my life. Anyway my first aftercare appointment is this morning and I'll be given another sight test, I can't imagine how low I'll be able to read. My next aftercare is next week and I'll also have one next month and so on. My doctor was great and put me at ease, he was also very clear about risks and what to expect. I feel I went in with my 'eyes open' so as speak. Thrilled!
