Ashfield House, Standish, Wigan

I recently attended a lunch time meal at Ashfield house with a party of 20 plus.

I myself had an amazing starter, an amazing main course and a delicious Dessert. My only niggling annoyance was our service.

Examples include asking for more bread rolls for our soup which in any other retaurant is a given but instead we were given the response 'i'll see what i can swing for you'.. and he never returned.

One waiter in particular seemed quite bluntly like he was taking the mick when speaking to us as customers, with exaggerated apologies when one of our party didnt recieve her meal for 5 minutes with no one coming over to our table explaining why it was missing!

I do recommed this restaurant for its food and setting, but the pre teen waiters who couldnt give a toss and mix ups of orders are a certain way of us not booking our wedding there which we were considering!

Beware!

We have recently been for an evening meal at Ashfield House, the second time in 4 months and the food was excellent as it was the first time we visited the restaurant; the service was very good and the location is beautiful. We have also been for Sunday lunch and the menu is full and varied. It's a lovely lunch and really is value for money.

Try their own sticky toffee pudding, but after saying that, I had one of the chefs special sweets with cream and almonds and it was excellent.

Although I have put that the atmosphere is quiet and refined, there were plenty in, but it is what I would call refined because it is somewhere to enjoy your meal and sit and chat in a lovely serene atmosphere either with friends or a romantic meal for two.

We went for a party at Ashfield House, the party was really good and venue was perfect for such an event, just a shame the accomodation did not reach the same standard. Food was excellent. Bed was comfortable and clean. Rooms didn't seem to be of a very good standard, a bit tired looking with furniture handles missing, pull cords for lights missing, shabby net curtains in the bathroom, sealant around the bath dirty, bathroom had overall musty damp smell. Tea and coffee making facilities supplied, however no milk.

It Was A marvelles time that my husband and I spent there and we are deffinetly coming back with such high standards.

They have a wide-ranging menu at Ashfield House restaurant in Standish, Wigan, and well-cooked food which is beautifully served. In over 8 years of visits (three - five times per year) we have never been disappointed.
