Gsd Intolerant To Gluten
My 7 month old German shepherd has a very sensitive tummy so after trying various other foods expensive, I now have him on the salmon sensitive, he loves this food and always wants more.
The protein is 20% so not bad, all other brands range from 22-30% which sends him climbing the walls and harder to train. Time will tell he has only switched from Wainwrights to skinners 2 days ago. The price is very reasonable compared to other brands No VAT

Excellent Produce. I Use It For My Setter Show Dog
Excellent produce. I use it for my Setter show dogs. They often have allergies to wheat and need gluten free. this product has no derivates, preservatives or additives and is Hypo - allergenic and gluten free. Plus as several other reviews have written lower protein. As setters dont need all this extra it just makes them hyper. Especially when they are young .
Its also excellent value and VAT free. I describe it as a Premium middle range dog food Hypo allergenic.

I Have Two 4 Year Old Beagles, One Rather Prone To
I have two 4 year old beagles, one rather prone to putting on weight if I'm not careful.
Skinners Field & Trial Maintenance was recommend to me by two different farmers who have working labs and spaniels.
Beagles are naturally high energy dogs and too much protein sends one of them just too hyper. This Maintenance mix has been perfect for them both. I would even go so far as to suggest that it is the best quality dog food around for such a reasonable price (ranges from £14.45 - £15.99). No artificial products in this food. Both dogs have glossy coats, good teeth and firm stools. I would highly recommend this product.

I Would Recommend This Product For Working Breeds,
I would recommend this product for working breeds, and for value for money. But i did not know of this product until i purchased my puppy from a breeder of border collies, this product is not advertised in pet shops as they do not stock it on their shelves, and i think the general public (not just breeders) should be informed of this product .

After Trying Many Different Dry Dog Foods, Ranging
After trying many different dry dog foods, ranging from the expensive to the cheapest, I've finally settled on Skinners Field & Trial Maintenance for my three working Springers.
Protein is a reasonable 18%; many dog foods have way too much protein, and I've seen them as high as 26% and 30%.
It's easy to maintain weight using this food, without having to resort to special diet foods, and of course more expense. The manufacturer recommends 170 grams per 8kg of body weight a day; this can only be taken as a guide, and does seem to err on the high side.
To give you an idea, I have three Springers; the first weighs 21kg and needs 500g a day to maintain his weight. He's a hard working Springer, and he is all muscle with no fat at all. He should be on 450g plus a day to maintain his weight according to the manufacturer.
The second Springer weighs 19kg and needs 350g a day. She's also hard working and all muscle. She should be on just over 400g a day.
The third Springer is 18kg, 5 years old and very methodical in her work, experienced and efficient. she only needs 220grams a day to maintain her weight. She should be on 380g a day.
So you see the recommendations are only a very rough guide. In my inexperience all manufacturers tend to over-estimate quantities required, and it is probably a good reason why we see so many fat dogs these days.
The dogs wolf it down in seconds. It's basted in tripe, so presumably this makes it more attractive to them.
Not a very nice equation in feeding dog food, but an important one none-the-less, is the dogs stools. My dogs stools are small and firm, and relatively odourless. They produce two a day each; this would suggest that the food going in the front end is being efficiently dealt with before it comes out the back end. Lower quality foods tend to produce runny and large stools, often with the dog needing to go many times a day.
Very helpful review and shows how much variation there is in different dogs requirements.
I thought this was help ful review as I have been thinking of trying Skinners Field & Trial Maintenance as I have three Golden Retrievers . I am currently using Burns but it is expensive to feed three as they have healthy appetites but are not fat and are very active. Will give it a try.
