Not Bad For The Price I Paid

I could write a long review on everything that the Makita DOESN'T do but to be honest for the price I paid it is a good drill and I have used it well.

Chocolate Tea Pot

I Have had a De Walt cordless drill for years, it finally gave up. I bought a Makita cordless drill from Wickes, with two batteries. The chuck is not straight. The batteries do not want to disengage. The first battery lasted about a year. The second battery eighteen months. In comparison to my De Walt, it was about as much use as a chocolate tea pot. Rubbish.

After Sales Service For A Professional Product

I am a professional joiner, a sub-contractor. Recently I purchased 4 off these, and within 3 months, 1 has had the chuck seize while using a 13mm drill bit. Another, which has only been in use for 8 weeks, has just been the victim of a burnt out motor, while using a 63mm hole saw, through 18mm ply.

Took the first back to Screwfix, and came back 4 days later, fixed. Took the other to Screwfix, and it came back 3 days later, unfortunately, this was not fixed, and had to go right back to Makita repair shop.

My problem is that when my tools are in a repair shop, they are not in the hands of working men.

No work...no pay...

I spoke to the repair centre manager, and informed him of the position that his company's poor quality product's have placed a self-employed man in...

no interest...

I was forced to pick up a couple of AEG 18v Li-Ion, to enable the job to continue, at a cost of £149 each.

However, even if these only last 6 months, they'll out-do a brand previously held to be one of choice for the professional.

I now have no interest in purchasing further Makita drills.

I Spent Over £200 On What I Thought Would La

I spent over £200 on what I thought would last a good few years for DIY use. Recently i noticed that at max torque I can hold the the chuck from turning so i have to use the drill setting for larger screws. Although this is not a show stopper it does mean chewing up screws. I called Makita but as it is out of warranty, they don't want to know. I asked about fit for purpose, still no go. Makita is a great name and the drill is superb to use but i will have to pay a good few quid to get it fixed.

Great Battery Life, Rapid Charge, Very Powerfull E

Great battery life, rapid charge, very powerfull even at high speed. The best I had, but because I use it a lot(full time job) I had some problems with it. First of all forward-reverse button started jamming. Luckily it was still under warranty, so was replaced free of charge. At the same time chuck started jamming and making funny noise when tightening it. And it appears that chuck is not covered by the warranty. Anyway, that`s what shop told me. So I carried using it until it totally jammed and now I am looking for a spare one to replace it.

Conclusion - great tool, but after sales service could be better. Professional tools should be fully covered by warranty, not just some parts of it.
