Paint Delaminating

Hi, we brought a sncollection kitchen for £18k from Mydream Kitchen in Jan 2018.Fitzroy in charcoal.the paint work on the units is very delicate. It starts to come off even if u touch with builders gloves. And u can see the white mdf layer. Our fitters pointed us to this. When we repoted they did some basic adhesion test and declared fit for use. It was fitted in Feb 2018. I have since seen loads of white paint scratches on them. Even a slight touch with pans and pots and the paints gone. So many complaints to Mydream Kitchen and nothing is put right. I am sure these units should last more that 6 months. I am taking legal advice and writing to watchdog as well. Apalling service from PWS retailer. Please don't buy kitchens from them if you want something durable. I have asked them if they are part of any trade association where we can escalate the issue. But again no response what so ever. At least buy kitchen from someone who is a member of Furniture Ombudsman, at least you can have ur complaint heard without going down the legal route.

Hi, we’re having very similar problems! We’ve just had the same adhesion test result! How did you get on in the end?

Appalling Product

We bought an Avant Beige kitchen and I like many of the above people have had a very poor experience with the doors delaminating. I cannot accept that the quality product that they claim should only be expected to last 5 years. I don't think anyone buys a kitchen expecting that.

They were clearly a faulty batch and there should not be any question about replacing them within 10 years. PWS bill themselves as a family company with quality goods. Would they be happy with this level of service if it was them.

Pws Kitchen Doors Aren't Meant To Last More Than 6 Years!

Avant Ivory doors supplied by PWS (aka Second Nature) in 2008 have been peeling (delaminating) in my customer's kitchen since 2011 - they were advised of the problem then but they won't supply replacements now because they aren't meant to last more than 6 years. I have that in an official email from the company.

I have the same problem with second nature doors delaminating. I have had an exchange of emails with PWS who have been unhelpful bordering on aggressive in tone. The official line is that five years is the useful life and that as ours are older than that the replacement is down to us. PWS have said that it is down to the original supplier to deal with and they have gone out of business. They also said that they had taken legal advice although I have not done so yet. Has anyone else had any success recently? I am aware that until the middle of last year they were replacing units free of charge.

Good morning. Following your post 7 months ago, please can you let me know how you got on. We are just starting the process with PWS, with our units. We have Avant White and 80% have split. Would just value tips on what your results/outcome was. Thanks very much

Hi

I also have the same problem. What did everyone do in the end? Have you taken legal action and been successful?

Same problem here. House bought with a new kitchen in 2008. Doors and drawers delaminated in 2009. We had the kitchen supplier in in 2009, 2011 and 2012 to replace them. He has ceased trading now and pws are not interested. They say five years is good service for their product!!! Am also taking legal advice.

No After Sales Service At All. Avoid This Company

We purchased a second nature kitchen via diykitchens.com it is the cornell painted, kitchen looked good when first installed but after only 10 months some of the doors started to expand and so the paint cracked, as the months passed more doors are affected, I have now been trying for 15 weeks constantly phoning and e mailing to get this sorted but neither PWS or diy kitchens seem to be interested. After 12 weeks of complaining to diy we did receive some replacement doors but these are painted oak and our kitchen is painted beech as apparently this kitchen is now only made in oak, but who wants a kitchen which is half beech & half oak !!! And we now have 2 more drawers which are cracked in the same way, I feel that this is an ongoing problem caused by faulty manufacture and surely PWS are aware of this problem. Avoid this company if you want a kitchen that lasts

Cornell Painted And Classic

We consulted ASL in Northampton who charge a single design fee. It is well worth paying this, Cliff the owner, could not be more helpful, and provided industry quality computer designs of our kitchen. They offered constructive advice and made suggestions that reflected their wealth of experience. They also supplied all Siemans appliances that were better priced than any online retailer. The kitchen arrived on time and was delivered by their own staff. It has lived up to all expectations and the finish of the units is fantastic. We did , whilst fitting, require further parts and they arrived promptly and correctly!

Second Nature offer a wide choice of units, far more comprehrensive than the higher priced Magnet equivalent and of a far better build quality. They also offer the opportunity to create a more bespoke feel to your kitchen. It has been installed now for 8 months and looks as good as new.

I also purchased an Avant Ivory kitchen and it has denominated. PWS replaced some doors but did not reply to my last email. We have bought some replacement doors but no one seems to stock them any longer.

My Second Nature Kitchen

I recently bought a kitchen from the Second Nature Croft Washed range, with Cosmic Black Leather granite worktops. The kitchen was designed and installed by Dean Hunter Kitchens from Bishop Auckland.

I was concious when choosing my kitchen that I was spending a lot of money and therefore I wanted something that would last me years and years to come. I have to say that both the workmanship and quality of the timber doors and granite worktops are first class and I am delighted with the end result.

I would definitely recommend both Dean Hunter Kitchens, and the Second Nature range to family and friends.

Delighted With My Kitchen!

I have recently had my kitchen fitted with Broadoak alabaster solid timber doors, walnut timber work top and island unit (also with timber worktop) by Custom Design in St Helen Auckland. The kitchen included two Le Mans storage units and a pull out drawer for bottles and spice jars.

I cannot fault the quality of the products and the timber worktop is stunning. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Second Nature.

Custom Design did an excellent job with the fitting.

Second Nature Avant Beige Delaminated Doors

Like most of the other reviews, some of my doors have delaminated and in a sign of the times, the fairly high end kitchen company that installed them has folded. I contacted PWS after the first 4 went and after about 5 months of reminder emails, where I was always told someone would get back to me (I can't fault the people I contacted, they were pleasant and seemed to want to help but it just never went anywhere) they agreed to send me 4 replacement doors which arrived within 2 days. Unfortunately 3 more doors have gone since so that's now 7 of 19 doors faulty. Interesting to read about the faulty batch because it makes me feel better about getting back to them. Credit to PWS for resolving my first complaint, here's hoping they will repeat the good service but I've lost all confidence in the remaining doors lasting the pace. And as I said to them, there's not much pace in my kitchen beyond toast and piercing films. No Jamie bish bash bosh nonsense for me.

I Posted A Review On 27 January 2011 About The Del

I posted a review on 27 January 2011 about the delamination of our Second Nature Avant kitchen doors. This is an update.

I contacted the distributor PWS. They were extremely helpful. They immediately advised me that they had had problems with a batch of doors made by a manufacturer they no longer use. They checked their records for the order made by the (now dissolved) company who installed our kitchen, and once this was found they were happy to supply, free-of-charge, replacements for all the defective doors. The new doors arrived within 5 days!

The doors do still need to be installed - hinges and handles will have to be fitted - so it's not hassle free. We will wait to see how these doors perform. PWS did seem very genuine about how the original problem arose and I was impressed by their customer service.
