Stables View Restaurant, Dowlais, Merthyr Tydfil

The food and service are out standing lovely friendly staff . We go at least once a month .

It was our first vist and we had our new American Son in Law visting.

I was a little put off,the lounge area smelled a little of damp,the building has certainly got damp issues,the toilets in paticular need to be refurbished,on the surface they have made an effort and it was clean and comfortable.

The service was exellent and we were made welcome and had time to relax have a drink,our orders were taken and we were then lead into the dining area,I have difficulty walking so found the differnt levels hard, also my daughters heel got stuck in a hole in the floor of the dining room,but this did not spoil our evening.

The food was wonderful my husband said it was the best Rib Eye Stake, the Pendaran sauce great,veg could have done with some greens but we enjoyed it all.Lamb was exellent and so was the Duck.Cheese/cake is highly recomended.

A 3 course meal with two bottles of wine for 5 people, the bill was £135.00. We would go again for the food and hope in time improvements to the building will be done.

This was our second visit ( Saturday 23/10/10 - on this occasion, for my birthday ).

As usual the food and service was to the highest standard.

I don't usually write reviews, but this is my second review. as i feel good food and service deserves praise !

But don't take my word for it - visit the restaurant for yourself - I'm sure that you won't be disapointed.

after reading the last review i was a little sceptical about going to this restaurant but i'm really glad i did. i didn't notice any smell of damp in the restaurant and i don't get the comparison between their toilets and a backstreet spanish establishment!!(their toilets are clean).. the food was great and even its origin is mentioned in the menu. the service is very good and the desserts are fantastic.

its the second time i have visited and to be honest was very disappionted, there was a strong smell of damp in the sitting area, as i walked into the toilets it was a mix between a back street spanish toilet and a dogs kennel! also if your trying to be a top class restaurant then having small plastic containers of milk rather than a jug of milk with coffee is not that impressive. It let down the dining experience for me. will not be visiting again sorry :-(

We go to the Stables as often as possible because it's simply the best place to go.

The menu here sources local produce as much as possible, and service and quality is second to none.

I won't go on about what we have etc, as we'd go on too much!!!!

But with a relaxed atmosphere, and staff who go out of their way to ensure you have a nice time,what more do you want.

However, two settees that used to be in the back area for a quiet pre dinner drink have now been moved too close to the bar, so now you have people passing to and fro when you are looking at the menu.This to me is a bad move; as it doesnt look right at all. Also a tacky looking juke box sits in the corner very much spoiling the look of the restaurant.

Apart from these two niggles, We love the food, and cannot recommend it highly enough.

We visited the Stables View restaurant last night ( Saturday 19/06/10) to celebrate our wedding aniversary.

It was the first time we have visited The Stables View restaurant and having only seen a number of customer reviews on the internet had only those on which to make a decision to visit you.

We arrived at 8.30 pm and found your staff to be both welcoming and very friendly - we were immediately greeted and shown to the lounge, where we ordered drinks and were invited to peruse the menu.

After making our choice we were taken to our table.

For starters my wife chose the home made soup and I chose the Brie and Bacon.

We both had sirloin steak with peppercorn sauce for main course ( we were amazed at the quality of local produce).

This was followed by us both choosing the raspberry cheese cake with raspberry coulis and pear and chocolate ice cream for dessert.

We ended the evening with your complimentary coffee.

Throughout the evening and after each course our waiters asked if everything was alright - and we were delighted they did so !

How often we have eaten at restaurants where the staff ask this maybe half way through the evening, or if you're really unlucky - as you pay the bill and leave !

The food and service were both excellent and could not be faulted in any way.

We would like to say a "Big and Sincere Thank You" for making our evening so enjoyable, and certainly an evening to remember.

Excellent local produce ( and the cheesecake is certainly to die for ) ;Welcoming and friendly staff providing Service of the highest standard in a setting that is really relaxed.

We will definitely be visiting you again and we will not hesitate to recommend you to others.

I have eaten here a few time now, and everytime the service and food have been spot on. All the meat is from local Welsh farms, as well as Welsh beer larger and cider. You have to try this place for yourself.

this is a very welcoming restaurant. with delicious food and great service.

absolutely superb , can't wait to go back. cheesecake to die for.

fabulous staff and attention to detail second to none,highly recommended.
