Robust And Easy To Use.

This machine is now in it's sixth season cutting my half acre fairly steep sloping lawn. The machine impressed immediately. It was easy to assemble and much to my surprise started on the first pull once it was fueled. It has continued to start almost always on the first pull ever since and the grass box is light and relatively easy to empty. It tackles long grass without too much trouble up to about 4 or 5 weeks growth. After 6 years it is beginning to show its age a bit. I have just ordered a replacement blade, the rubber handle grips are splitting but by and large the machine is going strong. The one criticism I would make is that it is a little on the heavy side on a steep slope as the result of the robust build.

Heavy

I am happy with the efficiency of the mower, but it is so heavy I really struggle and I'm no weakling. My lawn is not flat and it really is difficult to manoeuvre.

Good Mower But Has Weak Points

Initially I found this to be an excellent mower, reasonably priced, very powerful and handles even very long grass. I was very impressed by ease of use. HOWEVER, on only the second use one of the front wheels became wobbly and the sprung height selector spun off the retaining clip. On inspection and dismantling, the cast wheel bearing had sheared which was causing the wobble, and that wheel would not self propel. I have ordered 2 spare bearings as the other side will probably break as well. Unfortunately I lost the receipt so can't claim under warranty which is annoying. The poor design point is that the drive to the front wheels is offset and not through the central spindle, a geared spigot wheel drives the notched inner circumference of the driving wheel, AND it is metal turning plastic. It is obvious that I will soon also have to replace the front wheels (nearly £30 each) If the driving wheel design was made more sturdy I would rate it 5/5

Easy To Use

I am an OAP female and just found it too much to push an electric mower. from cutting the box open, unpacking the mower assembly was very easy. I visited a garage bought a can filled it with petrol bought the correct oil wheeled the mower out filled her up, primed as per instructions, a few pulls and my overgrown lawn was effortlessly cut. It is easy to adjust the height I did mine on highest setting then in future height can be lower. This is a robust mower and easy to use in between emptying the bag it stops there is no provision for keeping the engine running although it started again okay. I looked at many makes before choosing this one I liked the wide cut and it is important for the collection bag to be easily handled as I am neither strong nor tall. Hope this helps

Great Lawnmower

I recently purchased the Mcculloch M53 mulching lawn mower as a present and I wish I had bought it for myself. Its probably one of the best lawn mowers I have ever used. I have always loved Mcculloch lawn mowers so I knew it was going to be good. But when I had a go on it I was so impressed at the sheer power of it. The machine has a 190cc briggs and stratton engine and has a cutting width of 21 inches. It also mulches the grass for you as it goes along.

It is a heavy machine but because of the power it moves effortlessly along the lawn and it has a 70 litre grass bag. This is going to be my next purchase.
