Step into the Lotus and it feels like you have stepped into a time machine because this chinese restaurant has a very retro feel about it. It looks like a typical chinese you would have found in the 70s and 80s. That's not to say it's at all shabby, far from it, but the look and feel of the place are very much from a few years ago, and this isn't necessarily a bad thing
Service was rather good (though my soup arrived with a bit of a gap before my wife's and the rest of our starters!). Very friendly and efficient.
The food was good also, beef in a chilli sauce was tasty and the meat very tender, and prawns in the other dish were nice and succulent. Wine was a standard Jacob's Creek, so not exactly something that would make Jilly Goolden salivate, but passable.
We certainly weren't disappointed, and it is the first Chinese restuarant we have visited in Wakefield in the two and a half years we've been here, to our shame. To be fair there aren't a huge number, but I'd say the Lotus is going to be fairly difficult to beat
