Castellamare, Mumbles, Swansea

If you like Harvester or Weatherspoon's then you'll love this place because it's an Italian version, with a sea view. Unfortunately, the pubs enjoy better behaved staff, and probably food too.

I am actually convinced that this establishment is a cover for some surreptitious activity, largely because I have rarely visited such a thoughtless, careless and poorly run eatery. They could not give a hoot whether you enjoy your meal, the staff told me it is because they feed over a thousand people a week, and they actually inferred that the few that bother to complain are of no concern.

I have never been to another Italian restaurant where bread is on the table, with no olive oil in sight. The staff told me at the end of the meal that if I wanted olive oil then I should have asked! To start I had a bowl of olives, these were very basic, and had lettuce sprinkled on them? Then I had a bowl of spaghetti, or pasta as it was served (differing from the menu), with 8 small king prawns, and a horribly bland sauce, it cost just under £20. My fellow diners had steak, which even a steak knife had trouble getting through. Overall the food was very poor considering the price. It appeared that the chef was just churning out cheap basic meals canteen style.

When we discussed this with the waiter, he was unapologetic, had a cheeky answer for everything, and said he would tell someone else. Nobody came to see us, or to find out more. That was because nobody cared, plain and simple. When I paid, I mentioned the issues again to the chap who eagerly took my money. He was so arrogant I was left totally aghast, he really did not care at all and treated me like there was something wrong with me. I told him that I was very sorry for complaining and that I expected it was because I was used to dining in proper restaurants!

Later, my partner suffered extreme stomach pains for hours, and then my 92 year old aunt who had already embarrassed herself by recommending such a poor venue was almost sick a number of times.

So, in my opinion, the sooner this establishment disappears, the better.

It's a fab location with great service, the food is good but I regret to say that the portion sizes are rediculous. As some who eats out several times a week I enjoy a good meal but don't want to sleep all afternoon. Their pizzas are exemplary, pasta excellent and yes fish is wonderful though expensive. Considering the setting, quality of food and service this should be that number one destination restaurant in Swansea. The portions though put me off visiting too often. Otherwise excellent though pricey.

Castellamare has a good selection and beautifully prepared meals especially the fish dishes which are presented on superb plates which add to a wonderful dining experience.

Views from the restaurant are trully breathtaking.

This is a busy resaurant so booking is advised.
