Not A Good Burger
Went to 42 for lunch with my wife & 4 year old and waited aprrox 30 mins for a sandwich (Mozzarella & Tomato) & char grilled chicken burger. The restaurant was not at all busy.Firstly the food took FAR to long to arrive. Secondly, the char grilled burger was terrible - the chicken was cooked and then it looked as if it had very briefly touched the grill to get the impression of charing - white bland chicken & really poor taste. I ate the bun and veggies and left 90% of the tasteless bland chicken. The supervisor/server was informed of the issues and shown the left over and rather than offer a complete refund and prehaps an apology, explained how the burger had been cooked and at payment asking if there was anything they could do to fix a meal that had already ended with an extremely unhappy customer. I paid the full bill because this is not about the money but about quality of the food presented and the level of service. Cannot recommend

Bistro 42 Is A Rather Good Restaurant On The High
Bistro 42 is a rather good restaurant on the High St in Horbury. The selection of food is fairly varied, but they specialise in steaks, and do a decent selection of seafood also (depending on the specials board). They also have a decent lunchtime menu offering pizzas, burgers, and more traditional pub food fayre which is, however, well prepared and reasonably priced.
Surroundings are modern, yet comfortable and subtly lit, with examples of local artists' work on the walls which are usually available to buy if you are so inclined.
Service if friendly, though they do have a slightly annoying habit of making you wait for your table until they are ready to serve you even though you may have a booking and the table is actually vacant. Still, this isn't too big a deal as you are made comfortable in the ounge area and it gives you time for a relaxing aperitif and to decide what you want to eat.
The lounge area is also open to people dropping by for a drink which adds a little atmosphere, and they do on occasions open out the whole room as a bar/club complete with flashing lights.
Wine list is OK and not overly expensive.
Food is of good standard, well cooked though perhaps a little expensive for dinner every night, but is actually good value for the quality. It's certainly worth a visit for a treat, or even on a lunchtime
