Change Over To Lawrence Charlton

Ever since the change over to Lawrence charlton I've had emails ignored , promises of outstanding balances in writing not sent and months and months of waiting for this I wish the old DSC team were still in place they always went out of their way to help me from the start but now 11 years later £30k later I'm still paying off debt which no one can seem to tell me about

When the Financial Conduct Authority came into force in April 2014, they conducted a thorough investigation of Lawrence Charlton and all of their 14 associated Debt Management Brands, including the newly acquired Debt Support Company. They found that LC were withholding just over £750,000 of their clients' money and have been holding it for many years. This is due to the fact that when they issues cheques and BACS payments to YOUR creditors, if any details are incorrect the payments are sent back. The issues with this is that LC have no process for what to do with that money when it is returned and so have been holding this money for years and it continues to grow. They are currently in the process of trying to return this money to their clients. Some people are being refunded pence, others thousands.

The issue with this is that they are not telling their clients that in accordance to UK Financial Laws, their clients are LEGALLY ENTITLED to claim interest on this money for the length of time it has been held for at the current rate of interest set by the Bank of England. For instance, if they have withheld even just £100 they were supposed to send to your creditors over a period of a few years, you could be owed 3 or 4 hundred pounds.

I urge anyone who has any affiliation with Lawrence Charlton, Debt Free Direct, the Fairpoint Group and any of their acquired brands to get in touch with them and request your money back plus the interest you are legally owed!!

I worked with these guys in a middle management position for 3 years and I've seen the underhanded and deceitful lengths they will go to in order to cover up the truth. Please get in touch with them on the usual contact number you use and ask them to refund what is legally owed to you. You have nothing to lose and a lot to gain.

i agree, since changing to lawrence charlton there is no organisation at all. I have asked at least 10 times for an updated balance from these people in the last 6 months and nobody can tell me how much is left.I contacted the creditors myself, got the information and fed it back and they didnt even update my file.

Also find them very pushy and unhelpful in general. They just want you to make your payment and any other queries are of no interest to them.Quite frankly I dont know what the £35 Management fee is for as they are not actually managing my account.Would avoid them like the plague!

Dont Trust Them With Your Money.

I am currently going through hell with this company.

Last year l got in to financial difficulty.

I approached DSC who in turn evaluated my circumstances and l paid the fee in order to start settling the debts.

One of my creditors accepted a 'settlement offer'.

So l paid the funds in to DSC's account (just shy of £500.00) and they told me they had made the payment.

10 months on, thinking l am now debt free and behaving with my money, l apply for a loan. DECLINED. I check my credit file and there it is...... DEFAULT placed by the creditor who DSC said they'd paid.

I have been going round and round in circles with DSC and the original creditor for the last 3 months, and it was only recenlty that DSC confirmed they hadnt paid the settlement (yes - thats right - it had been sitting in their bank for over 10 months, making a nice bit of intrest).

My complaint has now been forwarded to the FOS and l have had a response from "Fairpoint Plc", saying they are looking into it.

Misery..... total misery..... DONT TRUST THEM WITH YOUR MONEY.

Hi

Did you resolve this problem you had with DSC, after starting a plan in Oct09 I have recently just found out that from then to Apr11 nobody has any idea of to were my £235 a month has gone as it hasn't came of the balances from my creditors. Now I can't even contact DSC and the Company who now own them Lawrence Charlton are basically saying the don't no anything about it. In total its around £4000 missing.

Any advise on who to contact etc??

Thanks

loz85

My partner is going through exactly the same. We we're told 8months ago his last payement would be November. He phoned this morning they have changed their minds he now has 11 months left. He will have been paying 3 & a half years once its finished. Nearly £13000 for debts just over £4000. How can this be? We really dont know where to turn or what to do we could just sit & cry today!!!! If anyone has any advice it would be highly welcomed!!!

Hi

I have exactly the same problem. I took a plan out 26 months ago with DSC, paying £112 per month to clear debts of £2400, so in theory should have a small amount left to pay. asked them for figures this month of the balance outstanding and it's £1500 more than half the original amount left to pay. I'm taking this to the OFT and FOS. How can they take advantage of people like this when they're in an already vulnerable state financially??!

Worsened My Credit Rating

I would not recommend the debt support company as since I have joined them I have had more and more problems to deal with and my credit rating is now shocking as on one of the accounts there are now a record of 4 missed payments. I always feel like I have to chase them to get things sorted. Not what I expected especially with the fees that I had to pay in the first 2 moths before any contributions to my debt were made.

Life Savers

I have nothing but praise for this company, they were supportive and helpful throughout the whole process and sprung into action as soon as I got in touch with them.

The advisor was really helpful in answering all my questions and helping me stop persistant phone calls.

The only disappointment I had was, I was told at the start of the agreement it would be 12 months. I hadn't heard anything in January so I emailed to find out if I could cancel the standing order, to find out I still had 3 months payments to make. I feel this information could have been passed on to me without me having to chase it up.

Thankyou For Your Help Dsc

I would like to say a massive thankyou to the Debt Support Company for helping me out of a situation that was spiralling out of control. My debts had got on top of me and I was borrowing each month from payday loan companies to pay back other loans and credit cards, accumulating extra debt each month in the process. I had no idea what to do

One phone call to the Debt Support Company and I felt infinitely better, finally with a way out. I spoke to a very helpful man who listened to what I had to say and gave me some great advice and told me exactly what to do so that I wasnt accumulating any more interest and was just paying what I could afford each month.

He then put me in touch with an account manager, Sue Silk who would be my point of contact. Sue has been magnificent and whenever I would call with a concern she would always resolve the issue I had and leave me feeling much better about the situation

Debt Support Company, thankyou for all you help,

Regards,

Stephen Woo

Hi thanks for your comment. I am now with Stepchange and have around £3700 left to pay on my debt management plan. Could you advise me on how to go about asking if they owe me any money?would I just write to them and ask them to send me a cheque if they do owe me any money?

Thanks

Thankyou So Much

I would like to thank the debt support company especially the advisor for all their help when I had got myself into the payday loan trap. It is too easy to be caught in this trap and not know where to turn. She helped me no end and supported my emotional outbursts and tearful phone calls. The only thing I didn't realise at the beginning was all the barrage of phone calls etc from the payday loan companies and having someone to listen and reassure me helped.
