Old Mill Restaurant, Stoke Holy Cross

Booked a table for four for 8pm, was quite busy and was seated by 830pm which was fine. Nice table and waiter who took our order was very pleasent. Food is traditional British fare and was exceptionally good, as was the service provided.

My disappointment came at the end of the meal upon paying. We presented "Spree Vouchers" which entitled both of us to a discount. The manageress was quite "shirty" about the Spree discount, and in front of my friends gave me a headmistress-style ticking-off. She stated that I had not followed the Spree rules and on booking had not mentioned "Spree". She then went on to say that it was not in the Spree rules that vouchers from separate Spree books could be used for two couples paying. I have subsequently checked this and on this point she was wrong. I was now a little embarrassed in front of my friends, but she continued and gave me a breakdown of how the Spree rules would change next year, even though I'm sure she could see that I was not in the least bit interested in what might happen at her establishment in the future. Never-the-less she did accept the Spree vouchers and we did get the discount.

Overall a lovely evening spoiled by the management's interjection. We did not leave a tip and certainly will not be recommending the Old Mill Restaurant to friends.
