Image Quality And Colour Definition Is This Monito
Image quality and colour definition is this monitor's strong point, with the image using analogue input being almost as good as the digital - indeed, I'm not sure I can differentiate betwen the two! Setup is simplicity itself, just connect the cables and Windows XP will correctly identify the monitor. Windows 98 needs the inf file but everything functions perfectly well with it set as a 'Plug and Play' monitor. The automatic setting for analogue input worked first time, and responds quickly to changes in screen resolution during (say) games. Changes using DVI input are instantaneous.
Colours and image defintion are superb at the natural 1280x1024 resolution, with vibrant primary colours and no banding between greys. I find the picture quality, contract and brightness to be significantly superior to my previous TFT, an Iiyama AS4432D which, while giving a clear, sharp image, tended to wash out the colours.
Image quality at lower resolutions (1024x768 and 800x600) remains excellent although there is a very slight blurring of text - excatly as one would expect. But it is not excessive and games (the usual candidates for lower resolutions) are still clear.
Talking of games, the quoted pixel response time for the L565 is 35ms. This is not the fastest (the Samsung SM171 series quotes sub 25ms) but I have not noticed any great motion blur while playing a variety of FPS games, various flight sims and RTS. DVD playback is crystal clear, better than my previous Mitsubishi 920 CRT.
Nags and quibbles: the built-in speakers are not worth the effort of connecting - tinny, little bass response and generally horrible. The screen can only be tilited up or down, there is no horizontal movement, although I don't find this a problem. There is no USB hub, something which I miss from my Iiyama monitor - that said it does cut down on the cost! Finally, the absence of a DVI cable is a bit mean - fortunately I had one available, but set aside £15-£20 if you don't!
Overall, this is a superb monitor which concentartes on doing the core business right. I strongly recommend it.
I bought one of these monitors recently to use in my digital photography and design work.
Your review has it right.
The image quality is superb. Since it is a monitor, that is really the only important thing. This is as good as the CTXPR711 monitor that I previously used, with smooth graduation of colour and pin sharp definition without that LCD 'graininess'.
It's a premium price but worth every penny if image quality is important to you.
