Great Food, But Amateur And Arrogant Service

We visited The Foxhunter recently, having heard of its reputation for excellent food.

The food was indeed excellent and all within our party would agree that it was beautifully cooked and presented.

However, the service left a lot to be desired. Firstly due to very young, clearly inexperienced staff who, were poorly trained. Secondly, due to the sheer arrogance and unenlighted attitude of a senior waitress, possibly manageress, who clearly thought the opinions of the guests wasn't important. She showed a lack of understanding of basic requirements of service and table manners.

Such a pity that such a talented chef is let down by the poor judgement of a senior manager who obviously has not learnt much from her competitions and has very poor understanding of customers' basic expectations.

It would be so easy to put this right if they had a person with better attitude. Obviously Customer Service is not a priority.

Lovely Restaurant Setting And Atmosphere Bu

Lovely restaurant setting and atmosphere but overall not at all good value and not filling. Very poor value for money. Would not recommend. Not impressed by restaurant asking us ( in advance of visit) to make sure we spent a certain amount of money before we left! Never come across this before.

Would like to say that we had good waitress service.

We Visited The Foxhunter For The First Time A Few

We visited The Foxhunter for the first time a few weeks ago for lunch, having bid for a voucher in a charity auction (paying £100+ for a £60 voucher). We found the welcome insipid and the service that followed was bordering on rude. They need to have a big rethink about their front of house staff especially the older gentleman (maitre de?), who provided us with a dessert spoon for the soup! As Gordon Ramsay openly stated to Steve Wright on Radio 2, 'the customer is king'. Not at The Foxhunter. The slight change that we asked to be made to a dish (the fish to be filleted) was met with disdain. We will certainly not be visiting The Foxhunter again and will not be recommending it to any of our peers.

I found this review very helpful because we had a similar experience when visiting the restaurant for a meal in March 2010. The maitre d had a superior air about him. The meal was not at all good, certainly not a meal prepared with loving care and attention to detail, a piece of beef carved off a sirloin joint, therefore no choice in how it was cooked. The saddle of lamb was very poor, tasteless and loads of fat. Won't be going there again or recommending it to anyone. Overpriced. I suggest Mr Tebbutt spends more time in his restaurant and less on the TV, or undertaking cook-offs at the Exeter Food Festival.
