Four O Nine Clapham

There is something a bit special Four O Nine from the moment you arrive. You have to ring the doorbell of an unassuming wooden door opposite Clapham North Tube Station, there used to not even be a sign, there is now though. Once you get through the door you walk up an outside staircase to the restaurant. The staff are really friendly and in the 3 or 4 times i have been there they have always done their best. The atmosphere in the restaurant is lovely, they have lots of candles everywhere which make it really cosy. The tables are curved, with one side longer than the other so the staff can put them together to seat an odd number without someone having to sit on their own at the end of a table. The food is always of a high quality. This time i ate scallops and cauliflower puree, which was delicious, followed by steak - which was plentiful and perfectly cooked medium rare as requested. I have also had several fish dishes and a chateaubriande on previous occasion, none of which i can fault. The wine list is extensive and although the menu isn't cheap, it's not extortionate and high quality ingredients are used. Whenever i go to Four O Nine i always wonder why i don't go there more often - highly recommended.
