Foreign Currency Direct

My fault for not shopping around, but I used this company because a friend recommended them. The rate I got was just terrible and shopping around would have revealed quite how much they were ripping me off. Let the buyer beware with this bunch. Incidentally have a look through their similar 'positive' reviews on here and decide for yourself how many of them are from real customers.

From start to finish the assistance and guidance could not have been easier, thank you for making the process so simple and easy.

Both the dealer & the financial controller gave a most pleasant to the point top quality service. Your financial information shows a tight gross margin which nevertheless leaves a good net profit. This gives good customer confidence.

Friendly, helpful staff explained everything really well and made the whole process very straightforward.

I chose Foreign Currency Direct because they were recommended by a real estate company that had given me excellent service. I had previously experienced excellent service from Moneycorp. On contact with Foreign Currency Direct I was promised professional and personal service with competitive rates. I experienced none of these. In the week preceding the settlement of our house I contacted Foreign Currency Direct and Moneycorp twice for current rates. Moneycorp produced them immediately, Foreign Currency Direct gave indicative figures only. It was only after applying considerable pressure did I get an actual rate on the Friday preceding the house settlement. It was lower than Moneycorp, but because I was going to be travelling in the two weeks following the house sale and would not find communication easy I chose Foreign Currency Direct and gave the account details to the notaire's office to forward the house sale proceeds assuming that the promise of better service would be a reality.

The person who was directly my account manager was rarely available when I called, hence there was no personal service. I dealt with a number of people who were not aware of my personal situation. It was frustrating having to explain to others what I had previously established for the record.

Having settled the house sale on the Monday the proceeds were transferred to Foreign Currency Direct that day becoming available on the Tuesday. I was contacted at the airport on the Tuesday just before boarding my flight for overseas. The rate I was offered was 1% lower than that offered on the Friday without any corresponding change in the markets to explain the lower figure. I am left with no other explanation than that once my funds were in Foreign Currency Direct's account I was offered a less favourable rate: unprincipled!

I needed our funds transferred to Australia to meet a house purchase contract. Failure to do so would lead to the loss of my deposit. I had no way to transfer my funds to Moneycorp so I accepted the rate offered by Foreign Currency Direct.

I was then advised that my account details were not complete and that I would need to provide proof of identity and residence in France, a country I was just leaving having sold my residence. In brief, it was a nightmare for me to be able to meet the requirements from Cuba where internet access is in its infancy. The loss of time, sleep and peace of mind cannot be expressed! It took more than a week to meet the requirements and to achieve the transfer of funds that should have moved within 24 hours. I cannot fathom how a company can remain registered that does not have a system to ensure that it can meet its requirements before entering into a contract to transfer. The lack of professionalism is appalling. I would dearly love to bring the situation to whatever authorities may be relevant, but I need to put the matter behind me and get on with my life. My only satisfaction is that I have been able to deter one would be client and I hope to find others.

Very impressed with the service and attention to detail. Also impressive advice re: the volatility of the currency markets and the timing of the most beneficial rates. All round, very satisfied with the service and will definitely use again.

Recommended by a friend,but very apprehensive as not ever used this service before,normally only through a bank.But the staff gave me full confidence kept me up todate on the transaction,and in all very professional.
