The Birdcage Musselburgh - East Lothian

Visited her on a Saturday afternoon with three friend for afternoon tea! Portions were miniscule and bar staff were kind of offhand to say the least. Afternoon tea would have fed a five year old ... and to charge 80p for a dash of lemonade and £1.80 for 200ml bottle of coke is scandalous to say the least. Wont be back and wont be recommending this place to anyone!!!!!!!

A group of colleagues ( eight in total) went for lunch costing £9.99 on 23rd March. We all had a cocktail and large glass of wine coffee and sweets all extra. Service charge is extra

I had thai fiscakes to start and then sea trout. The food was good but the portions were tiny. The fishcake consisted of one and a half wafer thin fishcakes and the trout was less than half inch wide and four/five inches long with some cabbage underneath. I spoke to the Australian waiter about it and he did bring some more fishcakes but felt he was defending birdcage a little too much. I also reported my concern to the assistant manager

We have been at the birdcage often and dont have any real complaints.

Steak brilliant!! really tasty,last time for a sweet i had the chocolate fondant,which they state will take 20 mins, mines took 35mins and i was dissapointed when it came,dry in the middle.

Also i noticed new staff this one lady looked like a manager or something and wouldnt stop staring and coming round our table to see if we were fininshed.

Overall good food and brilliant live dinner music on a fri and sat night.

Service poor, waited ages on drinks. Had to pre order as table of 20, this was to ensure a smooth service. They missed 1 meal so 1 person had to wait. 4people had the burger and were not happy with it, we complained that it was bland and not good and the waitress replied " well i will order one and see what i think!" she didnt even come back to us with her findings or offer a discount! Overall, it was very dissapointing.

Beautiful building, lovely interior design, good friendly & polite service and great food! Excellent for all types of dining whether with friends for a lunch, evening out with the girls or dinner for a romantic couple. Really enjoy eating here & would highly recommend.

excellent service,very friendly and helpful.food was brilliant we had the steak and was cooked to perfection.only thing was the place was quite dark and my grandfather could not read the menu.very nice for a romantic meal though.music a bit loud and more bar music than dinner but overall very nice and would go back again and again!!
