Quake 3 Arena (PC)

Overall its quite a nice game.

Good sounds and graphics but the lack of a clear storyline and a not very biG Multi-Community makes the game not very recommedable.

I do recommend Same Year Release Unreal Tournament from Epic Megagames.

Overall score: a minor 7, but still recommend Quake 3 Arena.

Playing the Quake 3 Arena at the start is very hard, I used to play all my games on the joypad, but I soon learned that was too slow, so trying to learn how to play using the mouse was hard, but once that I had worked it out and it did not feel WEIRD the game just got better and better! As you progress through the game your speed of reaction gets faster and faster so that after a while you rail with out thinking, rail is the way forward but it talks a level of skill that has taken a long time to master, and I still don't have it, I say that if you can beat xzero on nightmare on the map "stone and metal" then you will never lose a game on line! PS excessive RULES!!!!!!

This game is the absolute worst game ever made by id software. All the bad points above say it all. Worst game ever made.

It's hard to believe that i enjoy playing games on a 286 more than this.

Not to say that id software is bad, just the Quake 3 game is no good im my opinion. Quake 1 and 2 were not so bad though.

This game rocks, I played it for 5 months and still can't get enough of it, QUAKE III ARENA IS THE BEST

Quake 2 was better than Quake 3 Arena game on the PC.

#1 This game doesn't capture the IMPACT of death that quake 2 did. The Sound Effects of a death suck here.

The animation of gibbing someone doesn't feel like Quake 2's "Hamburger Meat" splat!

This game's deaths are ridiculous. I never feel as if I'm being hit. All the weapons are rapid fire, even the BFG.

Only the Railgun seems to keep the feeling of heavy bodily damage.

The starting weapon is an UGLY machine gun that you can shoot someone in the head with more than 10 times before they die (even with 0 Armor).

#2 The Railgun IS APPALLING in this game. A CRYSTAL, glowing, chrome piece of garbage. The sound is unconvincing. The railgun slugs have lost their whirldwind effect and are unconvincing. They are just COLORED lights? That's so stupid. They should have named it Laser Gun 'cause I would have believed it more.

#3 The weapons make absolutely no sense. They are all Machine guns. To make matters worse, playing under certain pings makes it seem that you're always being hit by the machine gun like guns. Quake 2 had 2 Machine guns, a Plasma machine gun, the BFG, A Railgun and 2 Shotguns. If you notice, the Shotguns and the Machine guns are hitscan weapons (you can't dodge them if you are pinpointed) They feel more realistic.

#4 The grenade launcher in Quake 3 has great sound but it doesnt pack the same explosive CHAOS as the one in Quake 2.

#5 Quake 3's Cd system bites. You can't play games like this with a Cd in the Drive. It's not good on many Computers to do so. (UNREAL TOURNAMENT GOT IT RIGHT)

Basically I think that Quake 3 was just a competing product for Unreal Tournament. However, Unreal Tournament was FAR more fun. Packing these games with weapons doesn't matter. I had more fun playing INSTAGIB- Last man Standing with a single blaster in Unreal Tournament than I had EVER with Quake 3.

Personally I think Quake 3 should come FREE with new PEntium 4 computers or High end graphics cards just to see what they can do. This game is trash after ONE day!

it beats unreal easily this is a must have for all 1st person shooters

When I first got this game I wasn't a huge fan of 1st person shooters, but after seeing my brother play I had to try it.

And I loved it!!!

Gameplay is excellent with INTELLIGENT AI. The AI can be configured from easy to hard to nightmare and will help you refine your combat skills & accuracy (a must with the Railgun)

Graphics are absolutely delicious, a gore lovers delight.

Blood splatters, mutilated bodies, bullet holes & burn marks all over the place.

Sound is the best I've heard on this kind of game & can be used to your advantage, creep up behind a noisy opponent & pump him full of holes.

However you may need a good PC to run this game well & an excellent sound system for the full experience.

I've found it runs pretty smooth on my Pentium 933, 256 MB RAM but on my brothers PC (Pentium 500 64MB RAM it can get a bit slow)

Above all an extremely addictive & challenging game.

This is a great game. I think its much better than unreal tournament. However, I found the controls abit fiddly when I first played it, but I realised that you would change them. I bought this at a real bargain, at £10. And I didnt expect it to be so great, but it was better than I had expected.

This game is absolutely awesome! If you are looking for a good game that is fun and takes time to beat, YOU NEED THIS! It is the best game ever. In other games you are drooling all over yourself from the intense boredom, where when you play this you are flooding the house because of the radical graphics! Games like unreal tournament are good competition, yet nothing beats the awesome gameplay and graphics of Quake III Arena!!!

This is a great game but is beaten hands down by Unreal tournament. It lacks the mood created by unreal fantastic sound effects and excellent maps. The weapons are far more creative too.
