The Pentax Mv-i Has Been A Great Camera. I've Boug
The Pentax MV-I has been a great camera. I've bought it when it was new (in 1980) and stopped using it in 2006, because films were getting harder and harder to come by and get developed.
The camera is made like a tank. It still 100% functional after 26 years of use. I've taken some great photo's with it.
I've owned some other camera's during the time I owned the Pentax, because I was looking for a camera which would give me more options (to control the shuttertime etc), but I always got back to the Pentax.
I used it with a standard 50mm lens and a Pentax-A Zoom 28~80mm lens. Changing lenses was easy and could be done in seconds.
The reason I stopped using it in 2006 was that in developed some mechanical errors that could be quite annoying. It has a tendecy to not fully close the shutter anymore after I've taken a photo, and so it has ruined some pictures, because they got dramaticly over-exposed. I've had it repaired twice, but the problem came back everytime. It can't be trusted anymore to take good pictures.
So in 2006 I stopped using it and got some simple digital 'point-and-click' camera. But I still sometimes miss that good ol' Pentax.
I still own the camera though.
Looking for "a camera which would give me more options (to control the shuttertime etc)", there were other Pentax cameras of the time that would have suited, like the ME Super. The MV-1 was just the bottom of the Pentax SLR range.

I Like The Pentax Mv-i It Takes Great Pictures Esp
I like the Pentax MV-I it takes great pictures especiallly with black and white film, I'm still looking for a flash that will connect with the light meter inside the view finder, my flash works but it doesn't tell the light meter "theres a flash connected" so it's kinda iffy whether the flash will help or not anyway if anyone knows of a flash that's compatible please let me know.
As well as my other comment, I just noticed the question about flash. Answer is that the Pentax AF 200S unit was designed for this M-series of cameras. It should bring on an "X" indicator in the viewfinder when it is ready. The flash unit has its own exposure system, does not interact with the camera's. That's as good as it gets - it's a simple camera.
The back opening if you pull out the rewind lever too hard is an known issue with the MV/MV-1. Stupid design. The MV/MV-1 was a low point in Pentax film cameras, auto only and you had no idea what the shutter speed was - the "traffic lights" in the viewfinder (Green = OK to shoot) was only meaningful with a standard lens. Pentax soon replaced it with the MG and never used "traffic lights" again.
