It's Recording Function And The General Accessibil

It's recording function and the general accessibility and ease of use of its features is diabolical. I would never have bought it if I'd known how poor it is. Simply playing mini-discs its great - but so are all mini-disc players.

The Sony Mz-n710 Is The Best Portable Audio Device

The sony MZ-N710 is the best portable audio device I have ever owned.

I can't really comment on value for money, as I got mine from ebay for £40!! So from my point of view it is excellent!

The battery life is great.

The software that it comes with (sonic stage), is a bit rubbish, but apart from that, I really have no complaints, other than all the idiots in world fail to see its superiority, and are happy with there rubbish little flash MP3 players.

The Sony Mz-n710player Rocks! I've Had It For Near

The Sony MZ-N710player rocks! I've had it for nearly 2 years now and it's worked without a single problem to date. I hate it when people slate this device because there was a one off disaster and was faulty or something how many out of thousands are going to faulty. Don't let bad reviews change your mind about this player it's great and has a huge range of features, the only way this could be better was if it was an mp3 player instead of a minidisc player but thats what some people are looking for minidisc players and this is one of the best you're guunna get!!!!!!!!!!

I Have Had My Sony Mz-n710 For 18 Months And It Ha

I have had my Sony MZ-N710 for 18 months and it has now packed up. The controller became erratic after only a couple of weeks. Headphones were replaced after 6 mths. I won't be buying another. Sound quality has always been good at LP2 speed, anything above that and it's pretty dodgy. Volume levels are woefully low. I don't want to be nannied by Sony.

Now We Get To The Reason Why I Am Going To Get A R

Now we get to the reason why I am going to get a refund on my Sony MZ-N710 portable mp3 player. The Sound Volume for the internal AMP is nothing short of rubbish!!! Shame as it spoils everything for me. I thought I had a faulty unit so exchanged it for another. The Sony support centre has not been the best for responding to support calls either, I had to keep ringing them. Going to get another Sony unit, maybe the MZN910 as I have not found anything on the web stating problems with internal Amp. Or wait as the new range is out June 2004.

I have tried recording on the optical link, adjust record volumes, turning things on and off in the MZN710 menus, no improvement found.

I would avoid the UK version if you can!!!!

Well you don't have to record through optical you get a usb cable with it and yeah I got mine from Argos last year paid £169.99 and got free pair off sony mini speaker worth £15

I've had no problems with it and it is probably the best music player I've had.

Don't Buy This Rubbish Mini Disk Player, The Sony

Don't buy this rubbish mini disk player, The Sony MZ-N710 is overpriced and doesn't do anything you expect it to.

It is advertised as a MP3 minidisc player. This is a plain lie. Sony force you to transfer all MP3 files to their proprietary ATRAC format. This means that you are stuck using their bloatware to manage your MP3 files on your computer - of course it tries to take over everything to do with MP3.

As a musician, I wanted a minidisc player that could record my music so that I could manipulate it on a computer. Sony just doesn't allow you to do a direct file transfer from the player to computer. Instead you have to do a direct transfer using the computer's sound card. That really stuck in my throat.

My recommendation: UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES BUY ANYTHING FROM SONY THAT IS TO DO WITH MP3.

I didn't even know that there was a net version, this is a review of the plain old ordinary version, which is probably where the original reviewer went wrong. He probably thought he was getting the net version. I just checked, and there's no USB socket on mine...

stowyn

I'm talking about the NET MD version of the MZ-N710 of course, which has a USB conection and a Sonic Stage application for doing the file transfers (and music format conversions).

DDD3

Are you sure you have the MZ-N710? Mine has no software of any kind, it was never designed to be linked to a computer, to the best of my knowledge none of the MZ series were.

stowyn

I can only agree with the comments made here.

The SonicStage software delivered with this product makes every effort to hide the user's files; it's file explorer program locks you in it's own sad little world.

Buy a USB key instead - much more flexible. The minidisk holds about 300 mB which is easily surpassed by the USB keys, and the USB keys record in MP3.

DDD3

It uses Atrac. Anything you do on the MD will be in Atrac. You have no choice. If you have the sofware you can convert Atrac to Mp3 or anything else on your computer, and you can use your computer to sort it out any way you want.

The MD player will neither help nor hinder you in this endevour. If you try to use it it will simply convert the files back into Atrac. Atrac is what it uses. Not Ogg, not wav, not wma, and not Mp3. Atrac.

Once you get your head around that you'll find life much easier.
