I recently got an Amex card. Your website, is extremely cumbersome to use, or should I say TRY to use. Not happy with it AT ALL. And all the "Contact Us" icon does is connect you to AMEX SPAM. Why would I want any of your other products, when I'm already dissatisfied with what I've gotten from you so far! I'm beginning to feel it was a mistake signing up for your card, and I am giving serious consideration to remedying that in the near future. If I had known the website would not allow you to make balance transfers, or that the "Contact Us" does not so much as give you an email address or customer service phone number, I doubt I would have signed up for this card in the first place.
Predatory Practices. You'll Be Sorry!
I have had the american express blue card since 2002. I have used it less these days because the interest rate is non-comptetitive, but still use it rarely for international travel. I had a 0 balance in February 2014. Without warning, their wallet protector service auto-billed to it in March 2014 ($39.99). This was the only charge that billing cycle. I did not check the statement since I had not used the card. There was no warning of the impending charge. In April 2014, American Express tacked on a $25 late fee (total balance now $64.99 and jacked up my rate to the penalty rate of 27% for this. They refused to remit the late fee or penalty rate. Inasmuch as the only balance on the card was initiated by american express itself and it was done without warning, I feel the practice is predatory. I have filed a complaint with the government's CFPB, as it seems this was the sort of practice they were created for.
I would advise extreme caution with these jerks as this is the way they treat a customer of a dozen or more years.
Worst Credit Card And Bad Company
I have an American Express card only because Costco does not accept other credit cards. Most small stores do not accept AE. Visa and MasterCards are much better to use.
Here is my recent experience with American Express which makes me dislike the AE card even more.
In the early days, only businesses can have costco/priceClub cards. I had mine through a friend who had a business. Earlier this year they closed their costco member, and I had to apply a new costco card. And has to apply for a new AE card as well. I talked to American Express to see if I can combine the 2 cards together, and was told that a) I should keep both open till I get my cash rebates (next Feb.) and close the old one. b) At the mean time I can use both cards (which I did). Now at the end of the year, American Express sent me a letter saying that they have closed my old AE card because it is not associated with a costco card (it has not been associated with a costco card for months and I was still able to use it!). When I asked them about my cash rebates earned on the card. The answer was it is gone because card has been closed.

No 10 Day Payoff In Writing...wont Close! Late Fees! No Way
I paid off three credit cards in JULY 2012, called and got a 10 day payoff and they were only credit card company that does not offer this in writing. Paid off and mailed check, 4 days later check cashed, 12 days later posted. Got a check in the mail for an overpayment. The following month received a bill for $43.00 and called and told it was a mistake and they will remove the charge. The following month a charge of over $70.00 showed and called. Not only was charges a $25.00 late fee, but account in delinquent.
I also paid off my credit card with them on 9/21/2012 - the date the amount was due. I was not advised of any other charges - 6 days later, I am charged the full amount of interest for the balance I paid off. I call and question and am told - oh that was for the interest on the balance. i consider this double cycle billing. I paid off more than the amount that was due on 9/21 and still I get a full charge of interest. Then the supervisor tries to explain to me that this is perfectly normal and that when you use the pay over time feature, this is how they calculate it. If we use that line of logic, then you will NEVER have a zero balance with them. You will always be assessed an interest charge. I am canceling the card and letting everybody know. DONT GO WITH AMERICAN EXPRESS - Just say NO!

I rarely use this AE card, while I was traveling I made a purchase on the card. American Expres never sent me a bill (paper or electronic) I forgot about it and since I never received a bill I did not pay the account. Eventually they sent me an electronic notice that my account was delinquint and it had been suspended. I immediately paid it off and called them to investigate the problem. They agreed to reverse the late fees and write a letter the each of the credit agencies explaining that they reported the acct as being delinquint in error. All was well, until 3 weeks later when I thought I would refinance my house, now my credit score is off and I do not qualify for the refi loan just because of the AE incident. My banker says no problem we will just call AE and get a letter from them stating that it was reported in error and they have requested the credit agencies remove the status; he does this all the time with clients in his line of work. This is where everything goes bad. After spending 2 days on the phone with every imaginable department at AE and talking to more people than I can count or recall the problem is still not resolved. At first they tried to tell me they do not/cannot write the letter, eventually they agree to make a "special" exception and write me the letter and they will fax it to my banker. Now they won't fax the letter, they say they have but all that comes through is a cover page; they want me to believe the problem is the receiving fax machine, however the banker is receiving multiple faxes from other clients on his fax machine with no problem. I gave AE a second fax number and that also "didn't work" for them; I asked them to scan and email the letter, but they cannot do that; then I asked that they overnight mail it, well guess what, they cannot do that either. I have filed a complaint with their customer service department, only to get a canned response that they would forward the complaint to the department I was working with. At this point getting the letter has become a mission for me. The card currently has a credit on the account and I have asked that they send me a check for the credit as I do not plan on ever using the card again. I have not heard back on that request but I am sure it will come back as they cannot send me a check for the credit. I have NEVER been treated so poorly by a business especially one that I have been an excellent and long standing custormer of.

They Charge Interest Rate For Nothing
i been carrying a amex for last 12 years 3 months ago i paid the minimum payment to see how it works the next bill i found out they charge $41 interest for $1100. i paid the full amount on my next bill so i don't have to pay the interest rate, after a month again they put the 89$ interest rate on my bill even though i made the full payment,when i call customer service there said I've to pay i was upset and close the account and made my full payment now recently i got bill $40 interest rate plus 25 $late while i was thinking i made the full payment and i am done with amex guess what no matter what whether you make full payment or not there keep billing you the interest rate . please be carefull before you apply blue card i would never recommend to nobody it sucks

Careful With Blue Card
I been carrying American express for the last 12 years and for last 12 years I been paying my bill full amount. 3months ago I try to pay minimum balance just to see how it works. Next bill I notice there charge the 40$ interest rate. So I made the full payment to avoid the interest rate. Even though I paid the full payment again I notice 89$ interest rate for nothing. I call customer service and there couldn't help and I was very upset and closed my account and made my full payments Now recently I got bill $40 interest rate and 25$ late charge even though my account has been closed n made the full payments.
When I call customer service there didn't help so overall even though I paid full amount still there charging the interest rate for nothing Please be carefully before you apply American express There just ripe you off and they don't care if you been there customer for last 12 years. There are so many good credit card that you can apply beside Amx

Blue Card Closure
Today I rcvd 2 identical letters dated on different dates saying that AMEX was cancelling my card in 4 days time, saying that they had written to me before to warn of this.
I called up and was told that AMEX are withdrawing Blue cards and the decision is final. I told them that I had not rcvd any warning but they also alerted me to the fact that they sent 6 closure letters to me, 2 of which I rcvd. They could not explain why they sent me 6 identical closure letters.
I have been with AMEX for 10 or so years and the credit limit was never more that £250, I also paid on time and regularly used it. I also bought AMEX travel insurance for 2-3 years.
What a bizarre way to treat a customer.

Americ*nt AxePress is a waste of your time. I've had them 'twice' in my lifetime, and both times they suddenly and without merit, cancelled my membership without warning. I had been prompt and ALWAYS PAID ON TIME OR BEFORE MY DEADLINE.

As A Customer For Over 20 Years, I Needed To Charg
As a customer for over 20 years, I needed to charge $975 on my card today. I called to check that no terms/LIMITS had changed and they had not. I went to make the charge and was rejected because they LOWERED my LIMIT to my balance within the 30 minutes! THAT IS A SCAM!
This is true and I have the papertrail proof.
