Netgear-mp101 Is A Great Piece Of Kit. I Can Play

Netgear-MP101 is a great piece of kit. I can play my vast collection of MP3s through the stereo and/or my home cinema system. The internet radio is great...I've been listening to Boston ATC lately, and all from my armchair in the UK

I Bought This In America Late Last Year, And I Hav

I bought this in America late last year, and I have found it to be reliable and good value.

The installation was easy, and the device was compatible with both my wireless network security, and firewall (both of which are extremely important to me). The bundled software is clear and concise, though I found it beneficial to download the latest version from Netgears' website. The firmware on the MP101 is easily upgraded via its wireless connection, and I would recommend that you run the latest version, as this seems to have cured any bugs in the connectivity.

The display is bright, and easily read from a reasonable distance. The remote is simple, clear and easy to use, though the styling leaves a little to be desired.

It even allows access, to a limited selection of internet radio stations without subscription.

Overall, this is a good piece of kit, Although to get the best out of it, some IT knowledge is advantageous.

I Brought A Netgear 108 Rooter, I Like Netgear We

I brought a Netgear 108 rooter, I like Netgear we use them a lot at work. On the back of the box the MP101 was shown linking into the network and accessing MP3 files and internet radio. It was the internet radio I really wanted.

Basically this product is great if; you have a desktop PC with your MP3 files stored on it. If you (like me) have a laptop you may as well plug your laptop into you stereo

When you get the boxed product it has a sticker on it saying you can upgrade the software to access the radio - not true. The software on the disk won't install - and once you have found the site to download it, the offer is only for the US! And of course I had to disable the firewall to allow the MP101 to connect to the wireless network, to really very good.

Would I buy it again? If I only had a desktop then yes it's great. I will make use of it by building a "music server" but still won't be able to have the radio! Unless anyone know different.

I struggled a lot with the software also. I first installed the latest, and it didn't work (the Netgear could not see the server in my desktop). same happened with the last but one! Finally (three's the charm), it worked with the last but two!. And the internet radio works also: you have access to a number of free stations and many more pay ones (this from Italy, so I guess it should work in UK also).

Overall, it works fine. I did have a few problems setingup the firewall ( I have a two layer solution, with Zone Alarm in the desktop and Checkpoint in the router/access point), but in the end I did it without compromizing the protection.

I guess you'll have to spend some time trying, but in the end the results are woth it.

good luck
