I made the mistake of choosing Discount Domains back in 2007. As a registrar, they don't really have to do anything except take the money year after year. I have my hosting elsewhere, thank God.

The minimum you can renew a .com domain for with Discount Domains is 2 years.

I have all my other domains with 123-reg. It is costing me £2 more to renew with Discount Domains than it would if I had the domain with 123-reg. I would transfer away from Discount Domains, but they'd charge me a release fee of £47+VAT to do so. It would normally cost less than half that with other registrars.

I have used Discount Domains services. Its very good. And Its Techy members are so good and very helpful.

Discount Domains are a pretty good domain registrar and web hosting company. And they give the web designing very reasonable price.

The worst thing is that they charge £35 or $55 to transfer your domain away from them. I don't know anyone else who does that. I don't think it's right to do that especially since they aren't the cheapest. I will not order any more domains with them.

When my colleague first called discountdomainsuk in order to transfer the domain away, Joanne tranter from discountdomainsuk was very cold and impatient with him.

So I personally gave it a try and at first she said she wouldn’t talk to me because I wasn’t the account holder. Even though I am the registrant technical support. The lady was very cold on the telephone and interrupted me. She said that they couldn’t transfer the domain back because it was now unlocked so it had nothing to do with them anymore.

When I then contacted her again by email telling her that we couldn’t carry out the transfer with our new hosting company because there was a typo on the registrar’s email address, she accepted to correct the typo. I then had to contact them again saying there was another typo on the registrant’s email address and she again said that the domain was transferred away and that it had nothing to do with them. How is it possible that she changed the admin email address but not the registrant email address?

The whole time I was dealing with discountdomainsuk, I only spoke to one person except from the time I called after 5pm and someone picked up the phone after many attempts. That person was very kind and helpful but when I mentioned that the lady I spoke to before was cold, he confirmed that he was only helping out and couldn’t do anything about that. So this sounds to me like an incompetent one woman band. I even wonder if it is not a student.

On many occasions I called and got through a voicemail asking to leave a message, and in the few days I had to deal with them their live chat support is always offline. I sent an email at 6pm in the evening and didn’t receive any feedback until I sent a remind the morning after at 10:40 am.

They are obligated as a registrar to take reasonable steps

Tend to agree with earlier reviews, Discount Domains seem very good so far and the techy staff are particularly helpful when it comes to explaining their administration system.

I plan to move all my UK domains over to them in the next couple of years.

I have been using Discount Domains for the last month and find its service is very good. Pricing is OK but not fantastic.

What is good is that you can call up and they know who you are - Its the only company in the industry that seems able to recall anybodies name!

The are an ICANN registrar and a Nominet member, offering the usual full range of domain names .com, .net , .co.uk etc, web hosting, email services, free website builder plus web design and search marketing options.

Its helpful that its a one stop shop for all your business internet needs.

They are also now offering reseller domain registrations to other domain providers.

They always seem to answer the phone first time. The staff are very helpful, and their prices are good.

Discount Domains - I enjoyed the helpful telephone support and free advice. Prices were not the cheapest but still reasonable.
