After Pondering For Ages Whether To Move To A Tft
After pondering for ages whether to move to a TFT from CRT I finally took the plunge after reading a review written by Eurogamers saying that the Hyundai Imagequest Q17+ was tested on Quake 3 Arena, the very game I play, and according to them there was no visible signs of bluring so armed with this I based my purchase soley on this statement; BIG MISTAKE! when the monitor was installed there is a motion blur on Quake 3 Arena I can only assume they tested it once having never played the game before. but as I have played this constantly for 18 months now on a CRT the minute you move fast in the game there is a noticable blur.. this has been noticed by me and several other hardened gamers. Settings, graphics card you name it I've done it. The graphics card is a MSI 5950 256 mb gforce n-vidia so more than capable of handelling this game plus we tried this TFT on a ATI 9600 still have motion blur when fast gaming when complaining to the supplier they advised after 2 days it was faulty and would need replacement!! So with this they advised me to contact a company called Repairtech who replaced the Monitor direct from Germany.
When this arrived we had the same problem so its now obvious the Monitor is at fault by the way this was purchased Nov 20th 2004 and Im still trying to get sense from Hyundai and my dealer who sold it to me at Overclockers.co.uk as they do not accept e-mail anymore only letters!! Basically asking for my money back as it was also this company that described the monitor as Blur free video and gaming and the gaming is not blur free.
Currently I have not heard from Overclockers yet the Head of Hyundai UK sales. Still waiting and not had a reply from Eurogamers either after 4 e-mails the very people who had claimed to have tested this on Quake 3 Arena.
To: conclude The TFT is now 2 days old back in its box as this is not acceptable to me as there is a blur when gaming. Now I'm back to CRT which costs me £50.00 and the picture is perfect, as for the TFT it's costing £305.00 and gathering dust awaiting collection so if anyone is thinking of buying this monitor for games you are more than welcome.
To call and see this in action on Quake 3 Arena as I would not want anyone to have the treatment and aggravation I have had over this monitor I would also welcome any feedback with regards to TFT and gaming !!! And also any problems you wish to share if you are a Q17+ owner.

I Had Done A Lot A Research On Tft Screens, I Had
I had done a lot a research on TFT screens, I had been staunch supporter of CRTs for years and could not even bring myself to think about LCD.
However, after my CRT decided to make a funny fizzing noise, make a smell like burning plastic and then shower my bedroom in sparks I decided it might be a good idea to take a look at what LCD monitors were available.
I had heard that LCD monitors are slow in changing screen content due to the technology used in switching the transitor in each pixel on and off and also to different transparency levels and because I play games a lot this refresh speed was paramount.
The Hyundai Q17+ boasts an update of 12ms which is FAST and believe me there is absolutley no visible ghosting at all. I'm using an Nvidia 6800 GT with DVI output and I can tell you this baby is gorgeous to behold.
With a native resolution of 1280x1024 this really is a nice TFT screen.
One gripe however is that it, as with most TFT screens, it cannot reproduce the colour black very well, because of the black light blacks are usually just off a dark grey.
Nice
