Used This Tent For 5-6 Years Now In Various Uk Loc

Used this tent for 5-6 years now in various UK locations.

Plus points:

Bedroom space is generous for 5 berth rating

Tall enough to stand up in

Well designed to withstand wind and rain

Versatile multiple door openings

Can use either or both (or neither) bedrooms

Build quality is superb (Wild Country are part of Terra Nova makers of really excellent mountain tents)

Quite easy to pitch the fly (see below also...)

Downsides:

After initial pitching of fly it can take quite a bit of tweaking to make the pitching perfect to match groundsheets

Windows are too high to see much out of

Lack of lantern hanging loop

Separate groundsheets can let in the cold

Hard to have good ventilation without letting in rain

Due to angle of the front of the tent a lot of space is of limited use

Conclusion:

After many uses I still rate the Homestead, it is always good to get back into the tent out of wind and rain, it feels secure and strong. We are now a family of 2 adults and 2 kids, with kids running about the mud gets everywhere and the usable space is getting crowded.

We recently bought an Outwell Montana to replace the Homestead. It has sown-in groundsheets, a weather porch and a more vertical front so it should overcome the faults of the homestead. If the build quality isn't up to the homestead I'll be wishing for the old tent again!

We've Had A Wild Country Homestead 5 For A Number

We've had a Wild Country Homestead 5 for a number of years and its been fantastically robust. We've been in the wettest of weather and stayed dry. Top tip . you can back your car in through the front of the tent and pack everything away leaving only the outer to strike and put into the boot. believe me its makes for a whole lot less stress when its monsoon like outside. The new version only looks to improve on the origional.

Absolutely Bomb-proof - The Heaviest Rain I've See

Absolutely bomb-proof - the heaviest rain I've seen in years hit us and we stayed warm and dry inside. The poles may be heavy, but its not a backpacking tent, so weight doesn't matter - the extra strength and durability are more important in a tent like this.Although some may argue otherwise, it is possible to put it up on your own - I've done so several times while my wife keeps junior occupied - its not easy, and it takes a bit of forethought, but I'm no Einstein and if you follow the instructions its not too tricky. Loads of space inside for table, chairs, cooker on a 'camping kitchen/larder' and several holdalls of toys and kit. Loads of door options to play with too - very, very versatile tent that's comfy in hot, cold, wet & dry conditions - what more could you ask? Even comes with a tent tidy - loads of hanging pockets to stash kit. Hard to fault, but a loop to attach a light inside would be handy - had to improvise. Also, and this is being really picky - extra ventilation in the side doors would be handy - at night in the summer, it can get a bit warm, despite all the built in vents - but then I've never met a tent yet that didn't have this problem and I've used many over the years. Absolutely fantastic tent - strong, easy to put up, weatherproof, really versatile - what more could anyone want in a holiday tent?

We Have Used This Tent On Our Main Summer Camping

We have used this tent on our main summer camping expedition on the continent for several years now and once it is up it is very spacious and hard wearing. We should get several more years use out of it yet even with two boys running around in it.

I would think twice about using it as a weekend-fair-weather tent as it takes quite some time to put up on Friday evening and Sunday morning comes around too quick after all that effort.

Very good in adverse conditions, never leaked a drop in the rain and the different access points make it possible to get in and out in the lee of the weather.

Wild Country Homestead 5 Is A Great Tent For A Wid

Wild Country Homestead 5 is a great tent for a wide range of uses. It will stand up well to strong wind and very heavy rain. It is also absolutely great for a summer camping trip where the weather is wal to wall sunshine.

The space inside is amazing - almost enough for a small car.

You can choose whether to use both the bedrooms or just one. Each room is large anough for the quoted number of persons plus their baggage.

One great point about the tent is you can stand up in it, with space to spare.
