Terrible, Except For The (contracted) Fitter

We thought the initial meetings with designer and measurer were ok until... when the fitter tried to install the window seat, it emerged that the measurements for a (gradually narrowing!) window seat were all of the maximum width available, ie of course there was no way the unit could fit within the narrowing bay! Measuring the space correctly is fundamental to fitted furniture, so that was a critical error from the outset. Fortunately, the fitter (the only good part of a terrible experience) made it work, but it required multiple attempts on multiple days because the measurements were so far wrong, and ultimately special verbal permission was required from a manager. The whole installation was supposed to be completed in a single day, but...

Of course, because the measurements were wrong, the doors for the window seat had to be reordered and 'specially made' but it's a FITTED furniture company... so this should be just what they do, right?! Wrong. Doors took weeks (plural) to arrive, required several follow-up calls (even the staff I was speaking to were surprised they hadn't arrived) and when the specially made, long awaited doors finally did arrive, they were just left on the doorstep visible for all passers by to see, no phone call to let us know they were delivered, no request to leave them in a secure location or with a neighbour... But still, now that the doors were delivered, surely, plain sailing...

No. A template was needed for the window seat cushion. This was drawn on a piece of thickish brown paper, and then cut out. But I would have expected the person doing this to have their own equipment (not asking me whether I could provide something to cut on, and to cut with!). I would also have expected that this paper template by this point be prioritised because of the other delays we'd already experienced. Alas, many more days passed. Alas, me having to initiate phone calls again to ask Sharpe's what is happening. Alas, it emerged that the paper template had been "lost in the post"...

But a spare template had been made! So this was duly collected, and we did get our cushion (brilliantly fitted again by the contracted fitter, who consistently remained the only experience of competence in this saga). So, almost 5 weeks after our scheduled 1-day installation, we finally had a window seat! But obviously, we weren't happy to pay full price for incorrect measurements from a fitted furniture specialist, poor communication throughout, multiple delays and errors, and poor administration. So Sharpe's gave us a refund commensurate with the fact that the only good thing about this experience was that we happened to get an excellent fitter (who was semi-independent from the company anyway)...

Once again, no. Naturally, I challenged the amount being offered as compensation in conversation with (after more broken commitments and delays) the highest ranking person they would permit me to speak to at the company. Naturally I communicated the amount I thought would be fair for a refund (not that high either considering the saga). So we reasonably discussed this and came to a mutually acceptable fee...? No: instead I was actually ACCUSED by this employee, that if I wrote a review, this would amount to essentially holding the company to ransom for my preferred compensation amount.

We won't be using Sharpe's again. We don't recommend them. Obviously.

Sharps Truro

Visited the Sharps Shop in Truro after having a visit from a rep for a quote and although the CAD presentation was good I wanted to see the finish.

Being able to visit a shop and seeing the product, the finish and colour was a bonus.

The staff in the shop were very helpful and knowledgeable and we found their assistance invaluable.

We are now looking to place an order.

Awful

Our original fitting date was February 15th. Our original fitter worked for 2 days, and then Friday afternoon left to "get some lunch and more mastic" but never returned or answered calls.

Upon inspection of the work it was about as good as if I'd asked a 14 year old to do it not a professional with "15 years fitting experience".

We are currently unable to sleep in our bedroom and have been left with this for over 2 weeks now. Supposedly our replacement parts were to be delivered today so I have no idea how the remediation works can be undertaken tomorrow.

Personally because this business is all run with sub contractors, it's impossible to hold them to account.

If it's not fitted tomorrow I'll be telling them not to bother and will be starting a charge back from the credit card company, thankfully we paid that way and not their finance or a debit card.

Would avoid at all costs and use a reputable local trades person like we will be for all the other wardrobes we've had planned.

If I Could Rate -0 I Would

Had a voicemail left the morning of my appointment cancelling with no name or contact number. When I googled the number and went through to the relevant department the girl was extremely rude and talked all over me before putting the phone down. Shocked, I called back and the other department was nice and apologised, when she put me back though to the booking department the girl was talking to her colleague about me, not realising I’d already got through. When I said hello she purposely mispronounced my last name even though seconds before, I’ve heard her mention my name correctly to another colleague. When I asked to speak to the manager she said it wasn’t possible and she would call back. I did get a call back from the line a manger and she could’ve cared less the way I’ve been spoken to or treated. I told her that the other girl said there wasn’t anyone that works in my area to get another person over today, but the manager said there was someone in my area who was available due to a cancelled appointment that afternoon. When asking what would happen to the girls who was rude to me she got very defensive before putting the phone down on me herself. Never will I use this company again and will strongly ward off anyone that is considering.

Sharps Bedrooms. Don’t Be Fooled These Are Not Bespoke

This is NOT a bespoke option. You get a choice of cabinets and doors that are then ‘fitted’ into your room. so you get a bespoke fitting of standard units.

Our living room unit turned up with the main shelf area, the main part you see at 3.5m cut in half. At no point we’re we told this would be the case. No disrespect to ikea but this ‘bespoke’ unit looks worse than if I had bought two kitchen units and worktops and bolted them together!!! For four times the price.

Delivery and instal was delayed with no reason for a week causing extra expenses and changes to other commitments and work. You have to get your own carpet fitter to take up any carpets and put back as Sharps will not do.

On assembly, parts are missing and the installer cuts the chip board inside your home covering everything with dust and debris.

Please please please go elsewhere for your units. The items look and feel cheap and despite the two desig visits still ignored my request for access ports for media cables.

It's because Sharps buy their units in.. You should have gone to Starplan who have their own factory manufacturing true bespoke units built to order.. I believe they are cheaper too

Dreadful Pricing

How can you place an order with this company that still utilizes 'Sharp' practices. My daughter asked for a quote for my granddaughters very small bedroom. The cost £12,000!! If you order within the next 7 days its £7000, but if you order today only £5000, For Gods sake, are they living on a different planet. This practice died out years ago!! So are they trustworthy? Obviously not!! He is alive and well and working for Sharps!! I just want a straight price, not foul play

Not Even Had My Wardrobe Yet And It’s A Nightmares

So , not even been fitted yet.

1 ordered wardrobe and freestanding units,

2 colours we ordered were not available and hadn’t been for months, only found this out after deposit paid and the designer had been round. So totally different colours ordered but £250 knocked off the bill.

3 told the second payment would be made on delivery of our wardrobes, but in fact that’s not possible because they haven’t been able to do that for years, and if I’d taken the name of the Un hospitable un sympathetic miserable woman at the head office that called me I’d name her.

4 had an email to say our fitter would be here at 8/9 on the morning, but then had a text message from said fitter saying he wouldn’t be here till 2pm , this is now 6.30 pm the night before , 2 days taken off work because that’s how long it supposed to take to fit them, and the fitter is still on a job which he doesn’t know when he will finish

Don’t blame the fitter but this company is totally one to avoid . The whole process from buying our units( £5000 no small amount. ) has been a pain not trustworthy. No confidence in what we will receive either.

We have paid nearly £4000 for a small fitted wardrobe as we didn't want a free standing one. The designer made me feel severely uncomfortable in my own home. Although he was polite, he was pushy and told us we couldn't get a wardrobe from anywhere else and we would have no choice. After having a massive panic attack, he left after pushing us both through the finance because we didn't expect it to cost so much.

Some time after the surveyor came to take more measurements and then only showed us the plans. We were rushed for signatures on all pages for him to then leave the house promptly, ensuring he's secured our money and business. What the surveyor had missed was very important information, the duration. Nothing was explained to us regarding how long it would take and looking at the small space, it's something that could have easily been done in a working day. Well... We were wrong and more on this later.

The materials started to arrive. They respected the property and my newly fitted and expensive carpets by putting down sheets on some of the floor, not all. They've put holes in my newly decorated walls up the stairs and marked other walls on their way. You could say "like a bull in a china shop" style.

Then our fitter arrived. Turned up just before 8:30, which I was happy with, meaning this could be completed in time. Then went off for a lunch break for 30 minutes around 12:30 until 13:00, which is fine, we need to eat. He then came back for a whooping 2 hours and finished his day just after 15:00, leaving the room in a complete mess. This is the only room we can sleep in and we can't. I called Sharps and was pushed pillar to post to get to the right department about this and she was nothing but rude, impatient, defensive and unprofessional. I explained my situation, but somehow she managed to make this my fault. With a backhanded apology she thought this would be acceptable. I explained, we were unable to sleep in the room and we had no where to go. Numerous times, she mentioned that "says it can take up to 2 days in your contract, which the surveyor would have told you". Of course, their precious surveyors do everything they are suppose to. Not once were we told about this, we were just rushed for signatures, shown the drawings and then left waiting. Additionally, the number of days could have included the date when the materials were placed in our way, stopping us from moving around the master bedroom and causing health and safety issues. 2 full nights we had to work around this as it was delivered stupidly early.

Now, going back to "friendly" advisor. She would speak over me when I'm trying to explain my upsetting situation, reiterating that my critically ill wife doesn't need this stress and needs a place to sleep tonight. She did mention we could put the bed back ourself, but as stated in the so called "Contract" it mentions we need assistance with moving the bed - so this is impossible. When I mentioned to her that I could try and put the bed back, but the fitter will need to move it, she claimed due to health and safety, he wouldn't be able to do this and then goes on to tell me to move his machinery, tools, bench and the materials left in the room. So no health and safety concerns for their customers and would happily let them move heavy items on their own. (I've attached a screenshot showing evidence with their assistance required)

Furthermore, after getting absolutely no where with the advisor, and what seemed like I was going round on the same Ferris Wheel at this Sharps Carnival, I asked to speak to a manager.

Well, You could tell the hairs were up on her back when she joined the call. Ready to defend the title of sh + it customer service. She just said the same stuff  in just a more moody tone of voice, which just made the matters worse.

I honestly do NOT recommend Sharps, because the only thing Sharp you'll experience is a knife in your back and a hole in your wallet.

Waste Of Money

I was misled by the designer and when I contacted the head office during instalation I was basically told tough luck. I should have just gone to IKEA. A waste of £2000

Can anyone tell me if you pay a deposit or the cost cost up front?

fastgalina

Yes,we did.20%.

The total cost of your order is usually divided into 3 payments:deposit ( 20%),payment at delivery of materials (70%) and fitting cost (10%).

drudge

Has anyone else had problems with condensation?

drudge

Agedman. Yes is an outside wall. And no Sharps did not mention this at all.

Trying to resolve the matter with them all i get is " a lifestyle issue".

I have put a heat source inside the wardrobe as Sharps suggested to no avail. Still the same .

My problem is Sharps will not even discuss the problem all you get is you signed off. The problem clearly only came to light as the wardrobes started to get used.
