Flymo Power Compact 400

I was given a brand new pc400. I have never seen such bad workmanship. It is utterly useless. The lid will not close properly without fiddling about and the strap closure mechanism was an afterthought - what a pathetic effort to right a wrong. It is just a crappy design that is badly built. This company should go out of business, it would be poetic justice for all staff to lose their jobs. I am sick and tired of having these manufacturers taking the p**s. Why do the general public put up with this. I don't like to say it but take a look at German stuff and you can see proper quality. So utterly disappointed.

Flymo Power Compact 400 gave me over 12 years of service with no breakdowns and almost no maintenance. It only needs to have side air intakes cleaned regularly. Would also benefit from periodical cleaning under the motor cover which I did not appreciate enough. This alows for taking out and better cleaning of the side vent spongy filters. Lack of air flow and bad cooling will eventually melt plastic carbon brush holders. Carbon brushes lose alignment and this leads to arching and early burnout of the motor. If it wasn't for my own slipping standards in motor vents cleaning this mower would have lasted a few more years. Post-mortem conclusion -- as above. maybe I will repair it. Regular replacement motor price a bit too high - £56. I will have to buy a motor for much less to make it a good value.

Coped well with medium size lawns. I loved small footprint (basket on top!) of this mower combined with big 40cm mowing width. It was so easy to store in the garage. It was relatively light too and packed quite a punch for its weight, very compact size and modest special offer price. What a star! Powerful enaough that you don't need to ever sharpen the blade. Will cope cutting with blunt one. There is no equivalent mower on the market currently. What a pity!

B&Q GIVE ME THIS AS A REPLACEMENT FOR ANOTHER FLYMO THAT LASTED 10 MONTH, SO IM STUCK WITH A MOWER THAT DONT CUT GRASS, HOVER OR COLLECT GRASS, IT IS TOTALLY USELESS AND MY LAWN IS LIKE A BOWLING GREEN (I BORROW MY DAUGHTERS MOWER) IM VERY FIT AND 46 YEARS OLD AND THIS IS VERY HEAVY AND CLUMSY TO USE, ITS ALSO A NIGHTMARE TO CLEAN AND CLOGS UP ALL THE TIME, I HAVE HAD ABOUT 6 MOWERS IN MY TIME AND THIS WAS THE MOST EXPENSIVE AND MOST USELESS, NEXT TIME, ITS A CHEAP LITTLE BOSCH OR MOUNTFIELD LIKE I HAVE HAD IN THE PAST, DONT BUY IT AS YOU WILL BE SICK AS A CHIP LIKE ME, I WISH I HAD LOOKED AT THESE REVIEWS BEFORE I PURCHASED A FLYMO

We've had our flymo power compact 400 for several years and been well satisfied with its performance. Amazing how it can be designed to have so many little nooks and crannies for small cuttings to collect but for cutting and collecting it seems pretty good to us.

Had it for 1 and half seasons and im looking to change it already. the compacter grass collector doesnt really compact the grass and for medium lawns a regular trim is required even then the collector needs to empty 3 or 4 times. It has a cheap feel to it.

The Flymo Power Compact 400 is the best mower I have ever owned. Left out all winter and still works fine. Good cut and easy to empty.

Regret buying the Flymo Power Compact - now scrapped afer just 4 years of light use! Clogs in all grasses whether wet or dry seems to be due to lack of clearance for exiting grass. Poor grassbox vacuum mechanism does not work.

No complaints what so ever. Just plug in and point at the lawn and it does every thing I ask no matter how tough.

I thought that the problem might be that my wife was getting old but the problems she has are the same as listed here. Does not cut well at all We were considering a 3400 but after seeing the flymo reviews and experience of them, I think we will pass on that one.

Useless performance is completely clogged up after half a stripe. Idea of vaccuuming grass from lower cutters simply does not work. I dont know if mower will fall apart or vibrate itself to death despite having a new blade fitted and the motor balanced by local dealer this mower. I have complained to Flymo Electrolux but they are indiferent. Have they ever tried to cut a lawn with one of their rubbish machines?
