Interesting- Agree Entirely With Stephla Review-
Interesting- agree entirely with Stephla review- we have been going here
for about 4 years when we go to tenerife in October we alaways come to Los Abrigos
its in a different class from anywhere else we have been to in
Tenerife- its small, intimate ,food is excellent in a mixture of genres
-but - crucial - done right.
Worried last year because we knew the original chef had gone but all
was as before.
Very much a contrast to come here and it does overlook the sea in a small
fishing village at the end of a series of indifferent cafes/restaurants.
You return to your hotel after this wishing it could be as good-in our
case the gran bahia.

Los Roques - After A Week Of Really Quite Poor Foo
Los Roques - After a week of really quite poor food in Las Americas (including in our 5* hotel) we decided to dig around on the internet to find somewhere good to eat.
Los Roques really came up trumps. It was exactly what we were looking for - creative, tasty food in a nice atmosphere. The views are stunning and the service is really well balanced - not too familiar but not too formal.
The icing on the cake was that our waiter gave us a list of other restaurants we might enjoy - places he himself eats at - when we mentioned we'd had a bad time finding good places to eat. We ate at 2 of his recommendations before we left (Bistro d'Alain in Los Cristianos and Casa Tagoro in Granadilla) both were excellent. But on our last day we were back at Los Roques - it's approaching the best dining experience we've had in several years.

When We Decided To Holiday In Tenerife After An Ab
When we decided to holiday in Tenerife after an absence of several years we did some research on the internet to find good places to eat. We were glad to see one or two of our favourites still going (notably Bistrot d'Alain) and to see mention of new places. Los Roques was one of them. However, thanks to a bad review we nearly didn't go, but ended up going with some friend that had been before. I'm so glad we went, it's now number 2 on my list of favourites in Tenerife (Alain being no. 1).
The food is innovative and tasty, beautifully presented. They've recently changed the menu, and it's amazing how different the dishes are, yet they still seem to carry on the 'flavour' of the restaurant.
They use local produce - such as organic lamb from a nearby farm (you can eat at the farm as well - wen there - it's not very comfy and they don't know how to cook the lamb!) and they even grow some of their own fruits and vegetables.
Sometimes if it's busy there's a bit of a wait between courses, but the restaurant is comfy (I don't mind waiting if the seats aren't hard), the food is worth the wait, and the view is fantastic. Plus the staff are very helpful, giving details of ingredients, suggestions on wine, and even recommending other restaurants based on where you're staying and what you like! Peter even drew us a couple of maps of how to get to some places!
The prices are higher than average but I think you get what you pay for. They're in line with other restaurants in Tenerife that do this kind of food (admittedly, there aren't many). You certainly couldn't get this kind of food at the same price in the UK.
The "Canarian Flavours" menu - a 5 course menu using only local ingredients - is a steal at 35'. There's a more expensive one at 55 'that we didn't try. We've eaten a-la-carte several times and spend between 80 and 140 euros depending on what dishes we eat and what we drink. Some things are cheap - soup, salad, pasta, fish - others more expensive - lobster and fillet steak.
Worth the 20 minutes drive if you're in Las Americas. If you're in Golf del Sur you really must go.

I'm Very Surprised By All The Positive Reviews Of
I'm very surprised by all the positive reviews of this restaurant (Los Roques). Apart from the very nice decor, my opinion is that this restaurant has very little going for it and is overpriced. There are plenty of nice restaurants in Los Abrigos, more authentic and with better food (try el Cangrejo Loco right next door). What they serve in Los Roques is taken straight out of the menu of a typical French restaurant in France (Coquilles St Jacques, Magret de Canard, Goat Cheese, Foie Gras etc). Hardly original. Reasonably well presented, but presentation should be secondary to taste. I suspect a lot of foreigners like this place because the staff is foreign. The mise en bouche was a meatball. It might have been served on a chinese soup spoon, but that didn't change the fact that it was a meatball - oh yes with a tiny slice of truffle on top. The lobster starter had very little taste but the black beans were good. The coquilles saint jacques were cold and hardly original. The wine list is quite good (but again overpriced - the Sauvignon Blanc was very nice but too expensive at 10 euros a glass) and they have quite a large choice of wines by the glass. They're very proud of their Michelin listing. Don't be fooled though, they probably got it for their wooden tables and the fact that they give you a blanket to cover yourself with on the terrace. Save your bucks and go eat where the locals do.
I disagree with this review because it seems to me that the reviewer has an axe to grind and I think they couldn't be more wrong. Maybe they just didn't get what they expected didn't get on with the waiter or something? I've seen this exact same review on three different sites now. We tried to go to congreo loco when we were in Tenerife because of this reviewer. It has been closed by the health authorities, so I guess you get what you pay for. We ended up talking to some people eating on the terrace at Los Roques next door - we had no plans to go there - some locals that told us why Congrejo had closed. We ended up eating at Los Roques because of them. Compared to my experience, this review couldn't be more wrong.
I have to strongly disagree with this review. I eat here every time I'm in Tenerife which is several times a year and i find it is always excellent.
To address specific points:
"Could be anywhere" - the views are stunning, overlooking an almost unspoilt Canarian fishing port, see the photos on this site and the restaurant website.
"Food not very original": Can't remember anywhere that I ever saw scallops stuffed with foie gras served with vanilla olive oil(they are divine) nor an avocado and lime sorbet with white chocolate and thyme. These are just two examples of what I think is a very original menu
Worth noting, the last time I was there they have this fantastic local organic lamb and now grow their own salad leaves as they are moving more to local produce.
in my opinion, this place is worth going out of the way for.

Just As The Other Writer Says About Los Roques Fus
Just as the other writer says about Los Roques Fusion restaurant in Tenerife... Great food and fantastic wine! They have American wines that you can't find even in mainland Europe!
Rumour has it that they are due to be in the Michelin Guide, so go before it gets busy and the prices go up.

We Went To The Fusion Los Roques In Tenerife Entir
We went to the Fusion Los Roques in Tenerife entirely on spec after overhearing another couple talking about how much they enjoyed the place, and how different it was.
Different indeed! In fact it was something of a shock, and being used to most other Tenerife eateries, and after walking past places full of fishing nets and plastic chairs, more like a posh city restaurant, it was a bit daunting, and we almost didn't go in. But it's actually very comfortable, relaxed and friendly, and the food is certainly not to be missed. There were even children in the restaurant, and the waiters arranged for some food to be cooked especially for them.
The dishes were a little unusual, and there were things on the menu we definitely wouldn't want to eat, but equally there are things that we would both enjoy, so really I suppose it's quite a balanced menu!
We both had shrimp and fennel soup to start, which was rich and creamy, and quite the most delicious seafood soup I have ever had.
Then we had a chicken dish with a grape sauce and a fried potato thing, and I had Bison burger! The waiter talked me into it after convincing me it wasn't too strange, and it was very tasty and juicy, and the bits that came with it were fantastic.
We shared a dessert of bread pudding with caramel sauce that was just lovely.
All in all well worth the visit, and not too expensive considering what you get for your money.
The only downside was that the night we were there, there were some particularly noisy children playing in the street, but they weren't there too long, and it didn't really spoil our meal.
I went to Restaurante Los Roques with friends for no special occasion and had the most delightful meal there.
From the moment we arrived to the moment we left the staff were warm, friendly,
courteous and knowledgable, and definately added to the evening.
The restaurant itself is delightful; modern, chic and yet without being faddish
or trendy. We initially had drinks on the deck at lunchtime, which has the most
fantastic views, but went back another time for dinner.
Yet, despite the fantastic staff, the stunning views, the high standard of all
the furniture and fittings, along with what are probably the best restaurant
bathrooms on tenerife, nothing, but nothing, outdid the food.
We were stunned. You just don't expect to find food this good in a place like
this. Yes, the prices are higher than most of the restaurants around it, but
they are lower than you pay for the same food in places like London or New York.
In some cases, less than half what you might pay. And the food is at least equal
to many of the better restaurants I've eaten in, and that includes one or two
that have a Michelin Star.
There were four of us for dinner, but I will describe only my food for the sake
of brevity.
I had Tartar of Salmon to start. I discovered after eating it that the salmon is
purchased whole by the restaurant, but is prepared and cured on the premises in
their own marinade, a process taking several days. It is diced and served in a
caper aioli which is just fantastic. The flavour and texture combination gives a
kind of silkiness to the dish. The fish has a richness to it unlike anything
I've tasted in a fish dish like this. The waiter suggested I try some bread with
it, and sure enough, the bread opened up the flavour still further. The salad
leaves on which the salmon sat were some of the most diverse and tasty I've had
on the island.
My main course was Fillet of Beef with Yuca Chips, Sweet Pea Mousse and Thyme
Liquor. The steak was divinely tender, perfectly cooked medium rare. The yuca
chips were unusual and the sweet pea mousse verdent. Ah yes, there was a
quenelle of harissa on top of the steak, which, combined with the yuca, pea, and
thyme licor complemented the beef so well I was almost shocked. If only more
steak dishes were like this! I wondered afterwards why the bothered providing a
steak knife - I could have cut it with my fork!
For dessert, I had the Strawberry and Basil Sorbet, served with meringue and
basil liquor. Again, a fantastic flavour combination, perfectly balanced. The
sorbet was of fresh fruit puree, untainted with syrup, egg or cream, but still
smooth and creamy. The meringue was crisp and sweet, a perfect foil for the
sorbet. And the basil liquor added to and lifted the sorbet just the right way.
Added to this were two other surprises; the bread and the brownies, both
unsolicited and both free of charge, as you would expect of a restaurant of this
class, but not necessarily of restaurants in Tenerife.
At the beginning of the meal we were given a bowl of bread for the table. A
selection of five or so different breads, all baked on the premises, served with
a kind of spread/dip rather than butter, although butter was instantly provided
with a smile when one of our party expressed such a preference.
The brownies came with the coffee (which deserves a passing mention - it's Illy
- I thought it was and confirmed this with the (Italian!) waiter). They were
sweet, chocolatey and nutty, and the perfect acompaniament to the coffee.
All in all the place was great; we were so comfortable and enjoyed ourselves so
much. Although the food was excellent and the highlight of the evening the
staff, surroundings and ambiance all contributed.
We will definately be returning to Los Roques at every possible opportunity, and
although some may think the prices are high, I don't - you get what you pay for
and it's worth every last cent.
