Gurkha Brigade, Edinburgh

Gurkha Brigade has a refreshing range of dishes that Rick Stein's India series briefly featured MOMO, the Tibetan delicacy: these are meat dumplings served with a good tangy chilli sauce, a great appetiser for any of their range of main courses. They do all the dishes you would find in most 'Indian' restaurants in town, but the best reason to go to Gurkha Brigade is their speciality menu of authentic northern Indian, Tibetan and Nepalese food. Taking in the cross-over influences of China, Tibet Nepal and India, this is not a 'fusion' restaurant as we might know: every dish is genuine, authentic and true to the local style and culture; accordingly the main course choices can include pork, red wine in the sauce, and a blend of spices and seasonings and cooking methods from steaming to tandoori style grilling. The main thing is IT'S ALL EXCELLENT, with friendly service, value for money, and all within a few minutes walking distance of central Edinburgh. Last time I was there, they were doing an early-evening/pre and post theatre dinner menu. I'd go there more often but I live 300 miles away - but the next best place for this kind of food can only be Nepal!

We had Nepalese dish called MoMo, was testy and no fat at all. The sauce was sweet hot without sugar. Good chef ...See you again and again

A great little restaurant serving Nepalese cuisine. I have tried and enjoyed many Indian dishes over the years. So coming here and trying one of the many Nepalese dishes was a treat as they were unknown to me. The Bhuttuwa I tried was lovely.

I can't wait to try something different next time. With such good prices I will make that soon

The Gurkha Brigade restaurant in Edinburgh is excellent!

Gurkha Brigade, Edinburgh has a lunchtime menu available for under £5 and has a nice selection allowing you to try the cuisine. The food is excellent and the service equally so! I especially recommend the Nepalese Tarkari Lamb (Madras hot)

I often wonder if they are selling themselves too cheap as people often look at the menu board and carry on, missing out on a fab lunch.

Gurkha Brigade, just a great wee restaurant. Staff are so courteous it almost hurts, but the ambiance is still informal and cosy. The food was great and the prices were basic. We're likely to go back, maybe for a pre-theatre one day (just opposite Playhouse).
