Potentially Deadly Design Fault.

I have had this bike about three years. I use it daily for short trips and gentle cycling on roads. I have had to replace the rear wheel because the drive ceased to operate after a couple of years. While that is not great, the reason for this review is that a potentially deadly fault came to light. Fortunately I was on a quiet road and wearing a backpack which significantly broke my fall when the bolt in the clamp that secures the saddle to the stem broke without warning depositing me on my back in the road. I would never have dreamed that such a thing could happen, but now I look at it, it is obviously unsafe that one's life and health may depend on a single bolt. This is a serious design fault which needs addressing.

The exact same thing happened to me, took it back to Halfords and they replaced the sheared bolt, but it happened again 2months later.

I got a bloke from my work place to put a new stronger fixing on it.

Been alright since.

Outstanding Value For Money And Brilliant Brakes

Having had a long break from Cycling I decided 12 months ago to get a bike, and old battered Carrera crossfire was found and I used it daily.

I purchased a brand new crossfire 3 from Halfords recently and I am not disappointed. the bike is ideal for me and my daily route. the frame is nice and still the lock out forks are really useful and the hydraulic breaks (I am new to these) are a revelation.

my only complaint is the stock tyres Kenda really don't perform in the soft mud very well at all but they are not really designed for it. I will probably upgrade them at some point with some cyclocross ones.

So far really happy and cant believe you can get a bike like this for only £400

Get Out What You Put In

Having been a cyclist from age 7 and now approaching my 71st year I finally said goodbye to my hand built road bike last year and resigned myself to long walks. Sadly the knees were shot and as I live on the edge of the Pennines the only way was up. I then watched Larry Lamb touring England on an electric bike at age 70 and thought why not me.

As an entry level e-bike at a fraction of the cost of some of its more high profile competitors I cannot fault the Carrera Crossfire. True it is heavy, but so are most of the others I've looked at. It has a range of 60 miles and if you put the effort in and only use assistance when needed this distance is easily achievable. I have just done 56 miles around Barnsley and Penistone and still have 25% battery life left. Reports of battery cut outs I think are down to non cycling individuals who don't want to put the effort in and overheat the battery. The bike comes with plenty of kit. Kick stand, hydraulic disc brakes, Suspension, computer and a comfy saddle. What more could you want. Its definitely given me a new lease of life.

Great Value Bike

Like any bike has to be properly set up so not sure that some of the reviews relate to the quality of the bike or setting up. Bought mine nearly new and when you check out components against bike costing double the price - great buy. I use it on road and off road/bridle paths and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

Riddled With Faults

We brought the Carrera Crossfire at the end of December from Halfords. It has been back five or six times with faults. The staff did not bother to do the pre-purchase checks on the bike and there were a multitude of problems that became apparent when my son started to ride it. Problems with the gears, the chain, the breaks and frame. On our last visit to Halfords, for a punctured tyre to be replaced, we were handed back the bike with the breaks not working, and the frame bent! We were told the bike was no longer rideable and we'd need to get a new one. It has only been ridden 12 times. Customer service at its worst, this is despite the warranty and 12 months care plan. I could not recommend this bike to anyone, nor Halfords as a place to buy your bike from.

I have had similar problems. Mine was the display would stay lit and saying it was delivering power but it wasn't. I too bought mine from Halfords but believe they have looked after me very well. The man there is making enquiries to buy to only final piece of hardware (which should be only about £20) but with the holidays in 2018/19 the world may not fully re-open until the first Monday after New Years. He will also ask if Carrera will trade my old bike for a brand new one. Ask.

Wheels Poorly Built

my crossfire 1 spokes come lose after 45-50 miles on normal road use.

Halfords tell me i need new wheels, it may be 2 years old but has not been

used for 18 months, and i do 15 miles a week. i'ved never had this problem

in 50 years of bike riding. i'm geting my old dawes ready for the road now.

Cracking Good Bike

I've purchased a Carrea crossfire only the other day I previously had a Carrea subway I find the crossfire is a little bit heavier that the subway but better built more robust. I live in a town that's full of hills and bad roads so find the gear change is very smooth and suspension is very responsive and certainly takes the vibrations of the toad away from your wrists to give a smooth cycle. Breaks are good very responsive once adjusted to my liking.

In general so far a very good bike.
