tyres are cheap but only just changed too bonrager....if it aint broke dont fix it! is the motto here
this bike is a flat bar commutor, not a race bike or a mountain bike it wont like anything but tarmac roads or potholes.

Gryphon Doing Well 2012
I was after a bike for longer rides as training for a 200 miler at the end of April. The Gryphon looked good and ticked the boxes, 2,000 miles (5 months) of training and I did the 200 mile ride with no trouble other than the brakes were a little spongey to the end - just needed minor adjustment which is easy to do from a thumbwheel by the handlebar.
If you look after it and keep clean it's worth the money and will last. The only issue I found is the tyres, had a few punctures on the supplied tyres but changed to Schwalbe Marathon Greenguard and haven't had a puncture in 1,800 miles. Gears still smooth when oiled and very happy with this bike.
Took it in to Halfords (Rustington) for 6 week service. Support was superb and can't fault them, showed me how to adjust for optimum performance.
Conclusion - great for the money and with decent tyres it will keep you going if you look after it!

Ok Bike
Brought this bike from Halford in Twichenham whilst on offer, and within a after buying the bike the gears messed up and it took a fortnight to get it mended just after buying it this was dissapointing because the bike was brand new and after that was not quite the same. Also after having a crash the staff were really unhelpful in that store telling me to get it fixed in Hounslow 5 miles away they didn't want to know. After that experience I would really doubt about buying a bike at Halfords although I have recieved good customer service in other branches.
For the money it is quite good value I have had the bike with regular use for two years, the bike is Ok and goes through the gears quite nicely and is Ok on London roads. Although it is quite an uncomftable ride and the seat is hard. This bike is ideal if going a short distance fast I use it to cycle two miles a day and it does the job.For the serious cyclist this probably isn't your cup of tea

The Carrera Gryphon Road Pro Bicycle Is An Exellen
The Carrera Gryphon Road Pro bicycle is an exellent introduction towards road bikes. It cannot endure the hardship that a mountain bike can take and being a middle range priced bike then I would suggest only getting average performance from it.
This bike (based on other reviews and myself) is NOT designed for the gruellling bike run when people tend to stand on the pedals to shift weight for purpose of propulsion. Simply the rear spokes wont last if u did, as the other reviwers suggest.
An excellent upgrade from a mountain bike to use on roads. A burden if well acquainted with road bikes already. A menace if used in a city of pothole roads (Coventry).
Go on Ebay and try to find a second hand hardly used bike - there are many it seems sitting in garages waiting to get claimed

Have Regularly Had To Replace Broken Spokes (290mm
Have regularly had to replace broken spokes (290mm).
Have now had to buy a new rear wheel. Only they are very difficult to get hold of so my value £300 pound bike no has a £150 rear wheel. Beware. probably why my first Gryphon got pinched. Halfords really should look into this problem. I also suffered from the mis-aligned rear tape problem which resulted in the inevitable puncture. Shame really as would be a great bike.

Bought My Carrera Gryphon Disk Spec In Feb This Ye
Bought my Carrera Gryphon disk spec in Feb this year.I regularly use it on my 20 mile round trip commute Monday to Friday.Up until about late March everything was fine but then a rear spoke snapped.I took it into Halfords and was told they "may" fix it under warranty as i had bought a repair plan.I explained that it snapped as i was overtaking on a central london road and it wasn't due to bad riding etc etc.2 weeks later the bike is ready to be collected. The next day i start my commute again and on my return trip ANOTHER spoke snaps. Now i weigh 14 stone and i NEVER ride over pot holes especially on the gryphon as it has no suspension. They quoted me £75 for a new rear wheel.Unbelievable nerve.Apart from the spokes though i can't really complain.Problem is broken wheels mean i'm back on the tube so not much use really.I pick it up again tomorrow. It's been at Halfords for the best part of a month getting two spokes replaced. Not good enough.I would recommend the bike to a friend but only if he or she knows how toreplace spokes :-)
suspect they just replaced the broken spoke without re-tensioning the wheel correctly as rebalancing a wheel correctly requires more advanced skills

Very Pleased With The Carrera Gryphon Bike , Value
very pleased with the Carrera Gryphon bike , value for money, however poor after sales and advice from Halfords. I am cycling on average 170 mies per week and when the rear spokes kept snapping I was first told by Halfords that I was not cleaning the bike properly, then I was told that I was using the bike to excess 4000 miles in six months I feel is not excess.I am still in dispute with Halfords over the snapped derailer.

I Have The Carrera Gryphon For 12 Months Now And U
I have the Carrera Gryphon for 12 months now and use it for daily commute and done about 1400 miles. Great bike for the price and value for money. Two niggles though.
1. I got a puncture about 6 months ago and on further investigation found that rim tape has slipped exposing the holes for the spokes. These holes had sharp edges and were not deburred. I had to put on a second rim tape to solve.
2. At just over a year old it has started to break spokes in the rear wheel. It is happening regulaty now and have replaced 5 with a sixthe just broken. At 16 stone I am bigger than your average cyclist but not than big, so I would have expected the spokes to last a bit longer. I don't abuse the bike and have done no off road and no pot hole damage that I can remember

I Dunno Why I Went Into Halfords, But Ended Up Buy
I dunno why i went into halfords, but ended up buying a carerra vulcan - which i hated. salesman told me that i can lock the suspensions - which was a lie. almost lost my life on the thing as i bounced off at a corner. returned the damn thing as i was mis-sold to. wanted something promising, so after 2 hours of testing all the bikes - i bought a gryphone - and i love it! Very fast bike. I used to get really tired and sore from the vulcan, but this one keeps up with the spesialised and the ridgys.
So light i can carry up and down underground stairs.

A Cracking Bike For Commuting - It Flies Compared
A cracking bike for commuting - it flies compared to my old road bike, much better riding position for commuting, very smooth with minimal vibration trasmitted to rider (my biggest worry). I'm very pleased with it, and at less than £300 it's excellent value too.
