Bought Mine About Four Years Back For £25 Qu
Bought mine about four years back for £25 quid (used). Easy to assemble even without instructions or a helping hand. Gives a good workout but could do with more weights. Have had no problems apart from going through two cables (it's used five times a week) which are quite expencive at £25 a set, seperate cables not available. Apart from that York Compact 401 is good peice of kit.

I Have Had The York Compact 401 Home Multi Gym For
I have had the York Compact 401 Home Multi Gym for more than 10 years now and it's still going strong. I don't always have enough time to use it. Considering it's still the same price now new what I paid for it 2nd hand more than 10 years ago it was the best money spent. Versatile. Easy to assemble and dissemble. Sturdy. Good value for money as it trains all the musclegroups you need to train. It's not self-cleaning and still gathers dust when not used for a few days.

Haven't Experienced Weight Jamming/plate Buckling
Haven't experienced weight jamming/plate buckling reported by other users with the York Compact 401 Home Multi Gym . Overall though, it's a useful bit of kit providing you use it, which most people don't after the 1st flush of enthusiasm. (so you wouldn't necessarily spot the bad bits before you got fed up)
Good used buy if the price is right.
If you have restricted height, may need to screw a couple of hooks into the ceiling to stow the cross bar (no big deal)

My York Compact 401 Home Multi Gym Looks Like Two
My York Compact 401 Home Multi Gym looks like two plastic plates that guide the bar back through the weights are not strong enough and simply buckle. Really disappointing. Anyone know a solution?
It sounds like you have over-tightened the plastic guides. Try slackening them off a little for a better performance. Also, check you've assembled the cable correctly to the bar that drops through the weights - if it's wrong it will cause them to break.
