Daiwa Megaforce Baitcasting Reel

I bought the Daiwa megaforce baitcasting reel in the U S while on holiday , it looked the part and i was off fishing the next day, the reel itself has all the bits you expect on a baitcasting multiplier and more, adjustable magnetic drag , a handy twitching thumb device, for taking slack out of the line and giving your lure a quick burst of speed, it seems great , untill you catch a fish, the red anodized star drag even over tightened will not disengage, it constantly slips, being on holiday and in the moment totally overlooked this, but on returning home fishing the pike filled canals of the UK the reel let me down time after time,i landed the fish but the fight was with the reel and not the fish,about the fourth time i used the reel back home it felt more like a coffee grinder than a smooth fishing reel,after a bit of research i found it to be a common problem with this reel, just badly made, it wasnt what you would expect from Daiwa, but check reviews first before buying,On the reel it says engineered by daiwa ,but im sure its made somewhere dodgy, i decided to replace the brake washers / you get a set with the reel, so after undoing the sideplate screws and sliding them from the housing the side came off effortlessly as they do on any multiplier reel there seemed to be nothing wrong with the internal gubbins , but i changed the little plastic centrifugal bushes,really simple job,when i put the plate back on it wouldnt seat flat,on closer inspection a tiny fragment of a plastic clip/ groove interface slot , was amiss which i found later in the gearing, this reduced the coffee grinding affect ,,But i had to admit to myself id bought a lemon !//the only reason this reel gets a star is because you cant confirm the review without one
