Mercury 4 Hp 2 Stroke Outboard Purchased Feb 2010.
Mercury 4 HP 2 stroke outboard purchased Feb 2010.
Pro's:
Nice looking outboard.
Quality of build and paint seems good.
Very light.
Easy to start and operate from day 1.
Looks to be easy access for servicing.
Competitive price.
3 + 2 year warranty.
Lots of service agents around.
Con's:
Hood can be tricky to get back on.
Gear shift sticker doesn't line up with gear lever.
Plastic gear lever.
Has an annoying whistle at medium rev range (my particular motor only maybe?, check at next service).
Small fuel tank, no fuel level indication.
Uses 50:1 fuel/oil mix whereas competitor uses 100:1
Would benefit from rubber on points where it sits when not in use to avoid scratches. Seems to run a little rough at mid revs, but won't know if that can be improved until after the run-in and first service. Idles nicely with no hint of stalling when put into gear, smoothes out at full throttle.
