We Flew Britannia Airways To Cancun Over New Year

We flew Britannia Airways to Cancun over New Year 2005. The flight was very cheap (£240) and the quality probably represented fair value for money for that price. However in general terms the quality was very poor - the flight was supposed to be direct from Birmingham but stopped in Manchester - a delay of over 2 hours.

the stop over in manchester is clearly explained to passengers and is scheduled into your arrival time into cancun, so not a "delay" it is due to the fact the runway at birmingham airport cannot accomodate a fully laden (pax/fuel) 767-300. now if you would prefer the 4hour rtn trip to manchester or the 6 hour rtn trip to gatwick... i'm sure you will get to cancun with no "delays"

I Have Had To Spend Over 10 Hours On The Phone Due

I have had to spend over 10 hours on the phone due to the Britannia Airways website not working . I know there is a flight available but the agents cant seem to find it UNTIL I give them all the details and then they tell me they cannot book it for me cause it's an ONLINE booking .. How can I book a flight online if they can't get it to work ? All I have gotten is a high phone bill for rude customer service ...I want a ticket.. That is all I ask

We Got Tickets To Go To Cyprus For Two Weeks With

We got tickets to go to Cyprus for two weeks with my family. The Britannia Airways flight was on time. When I got on the plane I had plenty of leg room, and the seats were very comfortable. As soon as the seat-belt sign went off staff were coming round asking if people wanted drinks, and were very polite. The flight was in no way bumpy. It was smooth the whole way there.

I would use Britannia again.

Been With Britannia Airways To Kos Twice A Year [e

Been with Britannia Airways to Kos twice a year [ex East Midlands] for many a year now. Never been delayed outward. Last year, pilot was ill for outward flight; all passengers were taken from their resort hotel/appt. to a 5* Hotel on the Island and put up, £5 worth of phone calls home, sumptuous ad lib breakfast laid on, and all kept abreast of progress on a "recovery" plane. And yet STILL there are moaners!! That's what travel insurance is for! Miss a day's work? - let the insurance pay! Wonderful how two weeks in the sun can STILL leave many a British Holidaymaker, lord love 'em, hot under the collar instead of chilled-out!

August 2005 - ex Kos, the airport's air-starter for the engines broke down; cabin temp rises. Captain tells all what's happening; new starter can't leave its garage [battery flat!] so Captain has us all taken back into the cool of the dept hall.

We wait 45 mins whilst the problem is fixed; kiddies' buggies have been taken off for clients' convenience even ... and yet STILL there are the moaners. We take off just under two hours late - so what? Super service. Great airline.

For comfort, try and get in early to book an extra-legroom seat.

Pity they've axed the EMA flight to Kos next year ... oh dear - will it Excel Airlines?

It Is The Third Time We've Booked Extra Leg Room S

It is the third time we've booked extra leg room seats with

Britannia Airways at an extra £20 each, three times one of the seats has been next to the emergency exit where there is a great big box sticking out giving less space than a normal seat. Britannia not interested when I complained.

baileyn1

Thanks - I already know that I can pay EVEN MORE to pick the exact seats, that makes a low cost holiday now cost at least £50 per person more going to Cyprus. When I tried to do this about three years ago, the plane on the day was different to one booked and I did not get the seat requested, so I'll not be wasting money on that again. Why can't Britannia / Thomson simply play fair and STOP booking the seat next to the emergency shute as extra leg room, when it's NOT.

CaptainG

You can (for only £10,) prebook your exact seat when you book your holiday, the only way to get round getting these ABP seats is to prebook your exact seat number.

Short-Haul 757 Seats: 12B,12C,12D,12E, 32b, 32c,32d,32e.

baileyn1

If CaptainG had bothered to read my comment properly he would not have wasted his effort in stating the obvious. We all know why these boxes" exist, the point is why do we have to pay EXTRA to sit by one. Accept that there are limited seats so why are the airline allowed to charge for ones that are badly obstucted. We should have been allocated the two inside seats where there is NO obstruction.

CaptainG

This "box" as you put it on the extra leg room seats in an emergency slide raft attached to the door.

It is a legal requirement that the aircraft carries them at each door and may save 235 passengers lives in a crash situation!

On a B757-200 which Britannia/ThomsonFly fly, the only extra leg room seats are at row 12 and row 32, which are both emergency exit rows!

As A Frequent Flyer I Was Very Impressed With The

As a frequent flyer I was very impressed with the service offered on board the Britannia Airways. It was a very busy flight but the staff maintained their smile from the time we took off till we landed, nothing was too much and were always happy to oblige. Having flown on other charter airlines me and my husband found the legroom to be satisfactory for the length of our flight. Britannia (or Thompson fly as it is now known) has kept up to date with the ever changing travel market; they have re-branded the whole company and repainted their aircraft (TUI). I found the new design modern and refreshing. In my opinion this is the best charter airline at present.

Britannia Airways Have Managed 1 Thing, At Least,

Britannia Airways have managed 1 thing, at least, and that is to be consistent. Consistently bad. On the 4 times I have flown with them I have never been satisfied by the airline. The problems range to long delays without explanation, rude staff and worst of a ll a 5 hour flight without entertainment!

This Was The Return From Our Holiday In Puerto Pol

This was the return from our holiday in Puerto Pollensa, Majorca with Thomson Holidays which was very disappointing for a number of reason which I will not mention.

We arrived at Palma Airport on time courtesy of the old, Thomson coach and checked in.

We were welcomed onboard with a little more gratitude this time and where again on a Boeing 757-200, only this time wearing the Thomson.co.uk titles and still the ridiculous smiley face at the back.

Inside was an awful purple cabin which we found uncomfortable again, with very little leg room. The cabin was dirty, dated and tatty.

We were welcomed onboard our flight with Thomsonfly. com operated by Thomson and Britannia Airways over the tannoy - This continued throughout the flight which was very annoying! I don't understand why they don't just use one single name instead of confusing people as a few passengers commented that they thought this was Thomas Cook!

Our noisy B757 took-off and headed back to Manchester through a lot of turbulence. The Cabin Crew where relentless in their attempts to sell things and advertise and I must say that the in-flight magazine was filled to the brim on at least each page with multiple adverts and was more like a shopping guide then a magazine.

The meals where again not up to much and as with the outbound flight, was glad I didn't purchase one. I did purchased a bottle of wine from the drinks trolley though, which was fine.

The crew again refused to take a picture of the flight deck for my son which I was quiet annoyed about as they where quite happy to sell me their duty free, but not willing to take a picture for me.

We soon landing back in Manchester and collected our baggage which was quite slow in arriving considering their where very few flights at that time of night.

Overall I wouldn't fly with Britannia again nor holiday with Thomson again.

Not all terbulance is detectable on WX. Clear air turbulance can not be detected, this is proabaly what you experienced. WX is mainly used to avoid damaging the aircraft by flying through hail storms and not just to enhance passenger comfort.

CaptainG

It is in the CAA's own brief to ALL airlines that passengers nor passengers property can be taken onto the flight deck at any time.

Foe example a passenger was allowed on a flight deck of an Air France aircraft while it was on the ground at the gate - and it was taken over by terrorists!

As for the aircraft, trying to get 104 aircraft repainted, and new interiors in under 3 months means some aircraft have to waiit for their deep clean!

NewcastleFlyer

Trubulance can be avoided - it's called WX and Pilots know when they are going to recieve it. Photo's can be taken of flightdecks as my son has been allowed up front after arrival with MyTravel, First Choice, Astraeus and Excel post 9/11.

Isabel Haycock

We have travelled many times on Brittania flights, with Thomson holidays, and have never had a problem.

I agree that sometimes the interior of the cabin has looked rather dated, but I guess my house would if I had in excess of 200 people in it at any one time! I have always found the staff, both on the flight, and the reps in resort, to be friendy and helpful.

I would definitely book my next holiday with Thomson.

speedbird1013

just a comment to make is that the turbulance was not the fault of the airline and the reason for not taking a picture of the flight deck is because of security situation at present.

Britannia Airways Are A Fantastic Airline, Can't C

Britannia Airways are a Fantastic airline, can't complain about anything really. Flew to Girona in Sapin in August and the flights both ways were wonderful.

Was very impressed with the care and consideration that was given to a VERY nervous flyer travelling on her own that was given a seat next to me. Food was good and the complete service from start to finish was second to none. Would recommend executive check in, does cost extra but well worth it. No queuing free drinks and food and papers and all in a very nice lounge to relax in before the flight (Gatwick). The only down side I saw was its not Britannia checking you in on the flight home, and the care and attention wasn't there so much as it was on the way out, but once you are on the plane it all resumes again as Britannia staff welcome you on board.

Britannia Airways: There Was Only One Person

Britannia Airways:

There was only one person to check in over 200 people, not a very good first impression, this was only doubled to two went people began to complain.

The plane was dirty and old inside, the cabin crew didn't want to know us after they asked if we were flight only, they also didn't believe us went we told them we had pre-booked meals we had to dig our tickets out and show them.

1
Elly848

Just wanted to point out the cabin crew on most flights dont know if passengers are flight only or not. Also the reason you had to show your ticket to prove you had a meal is because the cabin crew follow a meal plan that isnt always 100% plus passengers move about the cabin which can make the meal plan incorrect. What probably happened on your flight was that for some reason the seat you were sitting in was down as a no meal, so by checking your tickets they are just keeping themselfs right so that everyone who has paid for a meal gets one.
