Al Yemenia Is A Joke.
They used to be a really nice airline to fly with. As of my last trip, I will never fly this airline or Royal Jordanian ever again. No hospitality, no air conditioning, no organization, and the airplane itself looked like it was about to fall apart. From the seats to the compartments where you store your carry ons, the airplane was disgusting. To top it off, we were in the airplane for 4 HOURS sitting there because of "technical difficulties" until we were finally let off the plane. Kids were drenched in sweat, the place smelled like body odor, and they would not own up to the fact that they were at fault. Passengers were yelling until we were let out. Also, along with royal Jordanian airlines, the people that work for both airlines have no respect for the passengers.

I Had The Opportunity To Travel In This Airline In
I had the opportunity to travel in this airline in April 2008. I bought the ticket as it was the cheapest available in that time. But the service I got was horrible. The planes are OK and sometime you will have plenty of space to rest. But the cabin crews do not follow the seat number in the boarding card. So you may be forced to sit somewhere else. There is no in flight entertainment system. The headset does not work for most of the seats. So you have to practice lip reading if you want to see the movie.
The Sanna international airport is the worst airport I have seen in my life. You will certainly feel like a prison there. There is a big dirty waiting room for the transit passenger and no facility to buy food or even shop. Our transit was for 5 hours and we had to starve at that time. Strangely enough, you have to request the guards to let you in the duty free region and most of them don't understand English. The airport staffs are very rough. The connecting flights are not regular. So if you miss one, you are stuck at Sanna for 2/3 days. One of my friends has to stay at Sanna for 3 days for his connecting flight. Of course the airline provided him with the accommodation but I don't like to ruin my vacation in a strange place with little to see.
The food choice is very limited and sometime I was offered no choice. Though there were options in the menu but the cabin crews were giving whatever they want to the passengers.
They offer 40kg luggage per person but I was worried about my staff during the whole journey. Their behaviour gave me the impression that if I lose my bag, I would get no help from them. Though I was fortunate enough to get the bags but they were wet and I had to dry my cloths for warring them later.
In brief I can say that I am not going to fly on this airline again in future. You can save some money with this but at the end of the day may have to regret like me.

I'm Yemeni Myself So Thought I'd Try Out The Yemen
I'm Yemeni myself so thought I'd try out the Yemenia (always flew royal Jordanian which i highly recommend)
It was one big joke from start to finish.
Check in was an absolute nightmare as there were plenty of Yemenis with way too much luggage than they're supposed to take, then they argued with the check in staff about having to pay for excess luggage, but the argument is not just with the passenger and the check in attendant, its with the passengers whole family, the person behind them in the queue and the taxi driver that brought them to the airport.
When I flew yemenia i would say the plane could hold between 250/300 passengers, when i asked flight attendant where my seat was she said, sit where ever you want theres only 70 passengers on this flight so i had the 4 centre seats too myself which was nice.
Would say the food was nice too, shame about the flight staff speak limited English (English is my first language), the flight was comfortable enough, don't know about the entertainment i was asleep for most of the flight and when i was awake i was reading my book.
Landing in Yemen was a total nightmare, you could say a free for all, my lock was broken and suitcase opened before it was put on the luggage reclaim carousel no point in arguing i can categorically guarantee nothing will happen.
The only reason i chose yemenia that time was because it was a direct flight from London Heathrow to Aden Yemen, that has been stopped now, it now flies from London Heathrow to Sa'na Yemen (so you have to go through 2 Yemeni airports thanks but no thanks.)
There are other airlines that will take you to Yemen for a cheaper price and better service.
Use this airline at your own risk, you have been warned!

My Advice To Any Sane Human Being Is To Aviod Yeme
My advice to any sane human being is to aviod Yemenia Airways all-together. Although it is cheap the planes are so old they probably got them free from some aviation museum. The In-flight entertainment is below par, when I went in august 2004 there feature film was Haunted Mansion starring Eddie Murphy. However most of the headphone sockets don't ever work so you get good practice at lip reading. Another shocking event was when I asked for a blanket they refused saying there wasn't enough to go around so I had to freeze throughout the 4 hour flight from India to Yemen. The only high point is the food, theres lots of it!
Another negative is the amount of times it stops for unscheduled refueling further delaying the duration time of the flight. At the Yemen airports most staff are reluctant to speak English and the Airports are in the process of being built.
Yemen Airlines caters for the Indiana Jones type of people however if your not looking for an adventure then by all means book your flight with someone other than Yemenia.
