Anissaras, Athina Apartments

i have stayedthere twice,once on my own, and the next time my partner came out to me. first time was in 2003,had a ball, met some brill people. virginia is a star, so much respect for her, she works so hard.,hope niko there son is well, he had a beaut puppy, and was never out of the pool. hope u remember me virginia??? was there when stella and terry stayed, yiannis, didnt like her, she kept calling him manny,lovley place, solitude, aah! pool, beaut, gardens,very nice, i used to nick yiannis lemons, for my cool drinks, sorry. a short walk 2 the beach, it goes on 4 ever. food at the apts, virginia is a beaut cook xx gr8 barbi. make sure yiannis doesnt get u on the3 old rakki, cried my eyes out when i left in 2003. there r a few shops on the way 2 the beach. large reasturant on the beach front, also,grocery souvenier and all u wont shop, take a walk along the beach as if yr goin in 2 hersonissos, there u will find a little shop, home made chips, and burgers 2 die 4, she will bring tray 2 beach, and then take it away. bless. beach there is gorgeous, gr8 4 swimming and lazing on the lounger....xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I stayed at Athena Classic in 2008. Virginia and Yanni were fantastic. My room was changed by Olympic due to allocation on arrival status. I had walking difficulties and Virginia and the housekeeper made sure that everything was moved to the same position in the new room so I could find everything easily. If you want 5* don't bother but if you want friendly lovely people who will bend over backwards to help you and have a hoot you won't be disappointed. The Olympic rep was rubbish. I will go back and would love to link up with the amazing bunch that were there when I was.

Enjoyed my stay when I wasn't there. All the older negative comments on here are still true. The room was tiny and very basic but then I did not expect much. The bathroom was dirty but as for the toilet and bin for your toilet paper - DISGUSTING. This was only emptied once along with the sheets and towels. Garden and pool are were basic but nice. The main issue I had with this place the owners were constantly making sure you did not bring any food and beverages to the garden/pool area, which I can understand but honestly they took this to another level, shouting at some guests and just rude! I can see they are trying to increase revenue as the place is not doing as well, as they mentioned. But keeping everything to a bare minimum will not be doing them any favours. As for the one and only RUDE housekeeper who also ends up serving your limited tasteless food in the bar area too, will then sit in the same area with her beer and smoke 20 cigarettes with children running around. This place seems isolated so a 20 minute walk to the beach seemed manageable at first until the heat kicks in. Its is NOT quiet! Will not be returning and will not recommend. Looking for something quieter, look elsewhere.

I was a little aprehensive after booking my holiday and reading some of the reviews below, so i thought it best to write my own. The now called Classic Apartments are excellent value for money, i booked last minute and only paid £105 so in truth i wasnt expecting much, but what i got was much better than some holidays i have paid in excess of a thousand. Fair enough its about a 20 minute walk to the beach and bars, but the walk is lovely and the scenery is beautiful. The rooms are a comfortable size and very clean, the owners are very friendly and made us feel welcome from the first night, even meeting us in person on our arrival at 5am. I wouldnt suggest the Classics to groups of teens or people who are there for the nightlife, but for couples and families it is as near to perfect as you will find anywhere. Obviously not everyone will agree with me but some of these reviews are not justified or maybe ust a little out of date, all i can say is that from summer 2010 any of the issues in other reviews have been rectified. I am definately going to return next year, and i cant wait! I honestly cant believe that for the price you can get somewhere like this, ive found a gem and i hope this place starts getting the reviews it deserves.

I stayed at the Classic Athina in August 2008, I was really worried about staying here as I had read some really bad reviews, went with my two children, at the time was age 5 and 14.

I really enjoyed my stay, Yes it was about 15- 20 mins walk to the beach, in the heat, But Yannie and his wife I think her names was Marie, and the children well grown up children were fantastic, I book through Olympic Holidays, the rep was rubbish.

There was no noise from plans so I do not know where the person who wrote the review got that from.

There is a two small shops up the road, turn left when you come out of the Athina apartments and follow road until you come to main road, road is very busy, Then there is another called mikes down towards the beach, Yes the apartments are very basic, but believe me I stayed in Crete last year half board and that was terrible, Going back this Year my children want to go back to the Athina, especially my son who was spoilt rotten by Yannie and his family, it is not for people who are looking for wild parties it is lovely and relaxing, When Yannie works the bar it does tend to be more noisy as he likes to sing but good fun.

Just back from a last-minute deal to Athina Apartments in Crete..

First room we were in was basic,but clean and had what you needed...First night though was noisy...We were in the flight path from the air-port,Had the main road opposite and the noise of the 'crickets' from the olive-groves which surrounded us...(not 'quiet' as described)..

The lady from the hotel was lovely..she moved us to a much quieter room which was also cooler..

The walk to the beech was a long way.Taking around 20mins..This walk twice aday (if you ate on the beech-front)was tiring...

We did find a great family run taverna beech,turn right) called 'Perigiali',,formerly known as the windmill...It is set back from a bar with a thatched roof..

The food was great,and cheap compared to others we looked at... The family were welcoming,talkitive and wanting to please...

Highly reccommended....

we were very disappointed with our holiday. The athina appartment was very basic & 20 min walk to nearest beach & shop. It was a 10 min taxi to local town. There was no air con-only a fan at 10 euros! Had to sleep with the door open so we got biten & were kept awake by either crickets or a local cow mooing & dogs barking all night!! The shower flooded every time we used it.

There is only a few restaurants 20 mins away, you have to walk down a very dark, dusty track to get to them-so take a torch !! We booked through golden ticket travel/allbury travel who told us it was very close to beach & town. Our rep was very rude & abrupt towards us.

The only good point was the owners were very friendly.

Had a wonderful stay at the classic Athenia Aparts, would recommend it for people who want a relaxing holiday. The rooms were well maintained and the owners are brill. Will definitely be going back there!

Quiet place, daily cleaning, useful kitchen, great swiming pool, near Hersonissos. Some distance (15 min walk) to beach. But good gym! Great point for relaxing and getting of to sites. Recommend to everyone ..

My 2 weeks at Athina Apartments in Anissaras make me want to book again next year, the owners were so nice to you they made you feel like family, after the too weeks are up i didn't wanna go back, I would recommend this to anyone who asks, the people who start complaining about the resorts, what do they expect for a self catering 3star?
