Great Tech Crew!
CalPop rose to the occasion, yet again, for us, when we needed their assistance with a service issue after hours. A late night visit to the server farm was necessary, where we were greeted and assisted. No one watched the clock or seemed impatient or hurried to be done with us. We left the facility with all issues resolved thanks to the knowledgable CalPop staff who went above and beyond the call of duty.
We highly recommend CalPop for anyone in need of secure server storage and management. They have been our trusted partners for many years.

2 year customer. Not for novices, but if you're moderately experienced with running your own server (with panel or without) their uptime has been excellent, support reasonable and great pricing.
I find them great for those non-mission critical applications and have about 25 domains hosted there.
Suport is 24 hours, but real life is 2-5 hour response time. They'll help with just about anything I put in the ticket system.

" First Off, Please Let Me State That I Have Been
" First off, please let me state that I have been a web technology developer and manager for over 17 years now, and I have dealt with a great deal of web hosting companies; both for businesses and for personal use.
With that being said, after six month's of having one of my clients being on Calpop's hosting, I have to say that Calpop has to be the worse company that I have ever seen in the industry.
First they promise 100% uptime, but that isn't even close to true. In a month's time, their servers went down at least three times. On top of that, they site was hit with a DDoS attack for which they couldn't even fix. Their explanation to us was that "it happened to a number of servers" and that "maybe you were running a chat service." (Seriously, that's what they told me over the phone).
Now, the same business site has gone down two and as I am typing this, I can't seem to get anyone to answer their 24-hour contact number (the receptionist just keeps answering and putting me on hold).
Please, please, as an avid technology user, lover and developer, stay away from Calpop. There are much better hosting companies out there and the more companies like Calpop receive patronage, the more companies like Calpop will pop up.
I really hope this company goes out of business because they have no concern for people or the technology they claim to be experts in. "

I Had A Server At Calpop.com, My Server Keep Going
I had a server at CALPOP.COM, my server keep going to read only mode. So I opened a support ticket requesting to have a hardware diagnostics, to make sure that my machine hardware wasn't the cause why my system keeps going read only mode.
Richard Lavender (Calpop manager) replies to my support ticket - telling me "All hardware on this machine pass, with no problems; we went ahead and ran a FSCK on this machine to repair the file system and have it back to online with no problems. I can assure you that their wont be any problems with this machine anymore"
So I logged in and did a simple dmesg on my server and this is what I got.

Funny how this guy "assure" me that their wasn't any hardware problems on my machine.

Calpop Have Consistantly Shown That They Have Litt
CalPop have consistantly shown that they have little to no experience or knowledge of servers, operating systems or general hardware.
One issue was the result of a CPU fan failing causing the server to crash periodically. After telling us categorically that they had checked the fans they later came back saying that they had replaced a failed fan and that all was no working. This took several days to resolve, during which time the server was down more than up.
The support staff don't seem to know what they're doing either. At one point the support guy we were dealing with took a photo of the screen on our server and emailed it to us to see if we knew what the log-file was showing! They don't even know how to print-screen!
I would never recommend this company to anyone. Ever!

For a simple reboot it takes about 5 to 10 min. The Supervisor who dealt with me personally was one of the most rude person I have ever dealt with, no professionalism nor knowledge of whats going on in my opinion.
IF calpop wants to be come one of the biggest data center of LA, they should consider changing management and hire more knowledgeably techs in my opinion.

I Started An E-commerce Business, And Went To Calp
I started an e-commerce business, and went to Calpop looking for the least expensive hosting. I had two network outages during the day, one of four hours, one for maybe 1.5 hours. This is very expensive for me in terms of lost revenue and customer confidence. I switched to a local (Denver) hosting service. Even though I pay about 50% more for hosting, it is well worth it and still not very expensive. If you don't need serious reliability, Calpop may be a very good choice. I have thought of using them for doing internet data backups and a test platform.

Only A Few People There Seem To Know Their Stuff,
Only a few people there seem to know their stuff, if you can catch them and if they're even working when you try to get help. Otherwise, forget it. I've been waiting for hours now for them to respond to my ticket but I haven't heard a peep. This isn't the first time either. I've had three "bad" problems due to hardware failure, and they've all taken days to get repaired.
Avoid them. They're cheap, yes, and you get exactly what you pay for. If you're looking for slow response, or no response, or responses that don't answer your questions, then yes, go for it.

Condescending tech support in my opinion as I personally feel I have had no help when my server was on the fritz. Bandwidth not what I was expecting and I am not happy with the billing, I do not recommend Calpop. Something went wrong with EVERY aspect of their service in my experience.
