Needs Dramatic Improvement

We started hosting with fatcow 3 years ago, since then the service has been getting worse and worse.

Please be aware if you are not in the USA but rather in the UK, the prices are not currency converted, rather the $ symbol is just changed for a £ symbol, so you end up paying a lot more than the US equivalent, and no you can not have the option to pay in $ and have the bank convert it.

The downtime and random changes have been steadily getting much worse, we have had substantial downtime this year so far,

The on-line support chat is a handy feature, however it is rare that they can resolve the issues i have had, in which case its 24 - 48 hours for a response from an upline person. what a joke!!!

Although the technical support when it does happen is usually ok, sometimes getting them to understand what is wrong can be a challenge.

Unfortunately the downtime and ridiculous wait for support is finally gotten too much for me and i am in the process of moving all of my domains and sites to a host that provides support within 20 mins, even in the middle of the night!!!!!

Have to agree. I used to rate them, but they turned into a cheapskate business skimming money for everything. My annual pricing increased 5x without so much as a warning about it. They just autorenew and wait for you to complain and its too late. Moving on.

Great Support, Slow Service

They offer some very cheap options and their support team are very helpful, but the hosting is slow, so slow that your browser will ofter time out. They also do not offer support for SSH or many features of PHP (ftp_connect, cURL)

I hope that slow response is not also from their DNS. I am hosting my website elsewhere, and just using FC for DNS and email.

Beware Inflated Extras For Their Tools

Beware joining up with FatCow for Web hosting and Domain Name Registration. There is no 'trial' option or ability to register and check it out - you have to sign up and pay up front.

Only then did I discover that things I had been told were possible had to be purchased with extra charges AND that those charges were 3x the going rate.

Specifically, I signed up because FatCow uses a white label version of Weebly for Drag and Drop website creation. But to get rid of certain limitations you need to upgrade to Weebly Pro. Weebly charge $47 per Year, and FatCow tries to charge £120/Year !

To find this out after registering (having checked first) was a shocker, so I cancelled my account which took over an hour to sort out.

On the plus side, FatCow has many other features and tools and they have LiveChat support which is great. Their trouble is that they are money grabbing for many features like security and you don't find this out until your have paid to join.

Beware - 3 stars is probably generous.

2 years later - I am finally leaving. Live Support is slow and they don't read the information provided, just throw in random answers which get nowhere. The constant mis-direction and changing you back to auto-renew is also annoying. I have just lost all trust in them now.

As an update, I am still with them, and moving another domain there. They did auto-renew my registration fee despite me SPECIFICALLY setting it to manual (I was going to let it expire). Nevertheless, they now have good on-line support and are responsive, so things are improving, for what they are.
