Worst Host And Worst Customer Service!

Terrible customer service, they take forever to answer the "24/7" chat !

they close the chat unexpectedly, they have the same answers over and over and a single issue could take up to 2 hours for them to respond !

their assistants are the least knowledgeable on the internet ! they have a script that they keep using and they NEVER succeed to fix any issue !!

in 3 years of hosting with them, they didn't solve my issue even once!

Not At All User Friendly

Not at all user-friendly. Thought I was getting a plan with several options, but did not. Now I'm stuck with them for 60 days (because I can't transfer my domain back for that long). The customer service agents really don't understand English, so don't understand your questions. I would give them a "minus" star if that were possible.

Dissapointing Customer And Support Service

I have used Hostgator for a number of years having a Shared Hosting Package with them and they used to be an okay host for the cost, not great service or reliability but not too expensive either.

Unfortunately in the last two years the service has got rather poor, what is provided has been reduced and they have all but removed the ability to contact them when there is a problem, which there is about three times a year.

They have not made any announcements to the fact, in fact on their website there are now broken links that don't work and forms that do not submit but now the only way to contact them when there is a problem is via Live Chat. No email, No Ticket System, No Phone calls. I have never come across a web host who had made it so difficult to contact them. I believe this was put in place as the ticket system was overworked, in the past you would open a ticket and then not get a reply until you complained to them. At least for not essential issues this still worked.

The last time when my site was down I had to use their Live Chat where there was a six hour queue - I have to sit around all day waiting for the timer to tick down to get someone to look into why what I'm paying for isn't working. Of course this turned out to be 'planned maintenance'. My sites were actually coming back just as I got to the front of the Live Chat queue, so my sites were down for around 12 hours and I wasted a day waiting for support. Dreadful service and can you really call something 'Live' if it takes six hours to answer?

Speaking of 'planned maintenance' They make promises of 99.9% uptime however this does not include 'planned maintenance'. Whenever I have had an ongoing problem, worst case all sites hosted on them were down for three days, this was named 'Planned Maintenance' and so neither eligible for any refund nor did it affect their 99.9% uptime 'guarantee'. I think this is somewhat of a questionable excuse, especially as they do not notify customers of this 'planned maintenance' ahead of times. They do have a forum which again doesn't work properly any more, but in it once there is a problem they will start a thread about the 'maintenance' and update that every two or three hours to say that the maintenance is ongoing and there is no time scale to be given. Again, very poor and frustrating. I would say I've generally had about 97% uptime over the year.

Live Chat itself is very hit or miss, I've had agents come on who don't seem to have a very good grasp of English and so can't understand any questions - they seem to just post random pre written answers in the hope they will hit a match. Its not good to have a long wait for 'Live Chat' only to have to end it and start over in the hope to get someone who can actually help.

Further they have removed their back up service and also their virus scanning service, both things they removed without notification despite this being a part of the package I bought from them originally. They now want customers to buy additional services they are reselling from other companies for those services.

They seem to be offering lots of cheap deals to try to hook new customers and seem to have given up completely on providing a reliable, fair service for existing ones. I'm disappointed to see the company work this way and am looking for a new web host.

Hostgator Has Been Great

I've been using HostGator for roughly 3 years now and have been extremely happy. Their support has been extremely easy to reach via phone or live chat 24/7. They've been very responsive and easy to work with. I would definitely recommend them to other users.

Brilliant Hosting Service And Great Uptime

I host over 100 websites with Hostgator, most of them Drupal websites, so reasonably complex with databases, etc. and I've always found that Hostgator offer a great, quick level of support, will go out of their way to answer support questions that are only semi-hosting related and I've had a great level of support.

They say they host over 9,000,000 domains which is pretty impressive.

I was surprised their overall rating wasn't higher on here, however I'd ask yourself if a company hosting over 9,000,000 domains only has a few reviews on this site, then why do some small companies have 200 reviews, mostly very similar with 5 stars and a handful very bad reviews. I suspect it's because lots of people write fake reviews!

Anyway, rant aside, I think Hostgator are great.

Good But Pricing Is An Issue

I started with them for many users and they milked me many times. I liked the overall customer service, I found that very important. However, I had an issue with their pricing structure it was designed to milk people i was on the hatchet plan then moved to business. After moving back to hatchen there was a downgrade fee which i found disgusting, they say no hidden feed but look at that. I left after there servers were limited to the use of what you can do. It wasn't the best especially for video hosting at the time.

I Can't Tell

Below is the kind of message you get from hostgator when you have sites with huge traffic. I was with then for over 3yrs and had to continue to put up with all thse messages and i finally had to go else where till date i haven't been told that my sites are consuming resources. I just think hostgator has been over sold. beware of too cheap web-hosting companies

"This message is to advise you of a temporary block placed on your database. The database was found to be consuming an inordinate amount of processor time, to the point of degrading overall system performance. While we do limit each account to no more than 25% of a system's CPU in our terms of service, we do not actively disable accounts until they greatly exceed that number, which is what happened in this case. Requests to this database may become degraded by limiting the maximum number of queries or connections for a limited amount of time, or if there are sustained issues, ultimately we may be forced to block access to this database until the issue has been resolved".

Very Good

It is now over a year and I am very happy. My company has two shared hosting packages (linux based) and I look after them.

Bunch of nice facilities. And they are giving lots of free website templates.

I love their customer support - very helpful. They will go all the way to help.

Only one problem I had - we had taken a VPS also once and while setting it up I by mistake screwed it. Though they restored it but the settings was not exactly like the initial one. I had to contact the Customer Support to get that fixed - wished they did it in the first place.

One more good thing is on the shared hosting they do run a Virus Check on request for free. And the report is also very helpful.
