Acorn Pet Centre, Queensway Retail Park, East Kilbride

I used to be the manager in here, this was about 3 years ago when it first opened. I feel that the staff receive no appropriate training or support from management, the only contact with management was on the phone and they were extremely unhelpful when asking for advise. The working conditions were a disgrace such as no heating, tiny staff area to which we were expected to eat our lunch standing up. The bins did not get emptied for over 11 weeks due to a financial dispute and we ended up getting bugs running around in the store room, we got an inspection from the environmental health. The dead fish from tanks were placed in a black bag and during the time the bins were not emptied they had to sit in the staff area, where we ate our lunch!! The smell was over powering.

All the staff purchased some chairs and even stationery to make the place a bit better. And to top it all off the wages were unbelievably low - under £6.00 for a store manager!!!

Im not surprised the place has now closed down!!

i fot that this place was amazzzzzzing i got lots of toys and stuff for my wittle dogggy wogggy he is so cutey wootey :) i got dis burds name aff ae a reciept and she was pure fit, facebook - added. am getttin ma jam. defos goin bak there. my doggy wasnt too please but i will be doing da doggy wae her. the manager was a pure animal man pure geein ma a dirty look fae grabbin the birds bumhole. defos not geein her the doggy.

Tonight I took a water sample to this shop, as instructed by the manager (on the phone)and when I got there, the manager never even had the decency to deal with me herself face to face even though it was her (Allison) to whom I had spoke. The water test was for my "poor water" after 2 of the 4 fish purchased just hours before had died. I found this an insult as I test my water regularly and have it specific to the fish. However I agreed travelled to the shop and they refused to do this as it was 5.54pm (a test can take no longer than 3-4mins). After my encounters with the acorn pet shop I am grudged to have to award them even the one star ( I would not be eligible to write a comment otherwise ). This shop is a retail nightmare, it does not just fail in customer service but across the board. The "friendly" staff, who are obsessed with the fact that they might have to stay one minute later, which is the harsh reality of the real world. I am switching back to my supplier in Cumbernauld as I have never had 1 problem with him (willing to drive miles away from that shambles Acorn!!!)

I went to acorn pet shop on Friday evening and asked if I could buy some tropical fish (@ 5.20pm) to which a young woman said "no we stop selling at 5.30pm". So I left it till the Sunday. I purchased 4 Neon Tetras to finish off my tank (Livestock value of £100+), only to discover the next morning that they were riddled with WHITE SPOT (disease very easily transferred to existing fish). When I noticed this at 5pm I phoned and spoke to the manager who agreed with me that I could drive up get bags, bag them, take them back and exchange them for 4 healthy ones. I done exactly the 7 mile trek from house to shop twice only to find at 6.02pm the whole shop shut and no-one about!! Forced to take the infected fish back to my house I put them in my tank (so they wouldn't die) and it now appears my fish are showing signs of a WHITE SPOT break out.

I RECOMMENED ANYONE WHO KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT FISH TO NEVER USE THIS SHOP!

I came into the shop to day to get and when I walked in a got a very warm welcom from the staff and the young tall man came over to help I had loads of qwestions and he was able to anser them and he was very nice and so helpful because of the man I will be coming back again to get more fish and bits for my dogs and I will be recomending it to my family and friends I am putting in this coment because of him .

I will never use this store again i also found staff chating at the tills and found them to be totaly rude you all should be ashamed of yourselfs, it wont be long until that store goes bust and the chaty staff will be on the dole were they belong.

i recently visited the store and i was very happy with the attention and help i rieceved from the staff,on reading the reviews i think the store has a new manager as she is very friendly. and i did feel welcomed when entering and leaving the store. i would recommend acorn pet centres to anyone.

i have found that on saturdays there is a lovely young girl and boy who are always happy to help.

They should see themselves as assets to the shop and they are the only reason i return, otherwise i would not be able to put up with the staff within this particular shop.

Although i am puzzled as to why fish can not be sold after 5:40 on a saturday ?

I went to acron to buy a tropical fish tank as the town centre pet store did not have tropical tanks. i have never had a tank before therefore i went to the till to ask the staff for some assistance (they were all talking) they all aruged over which one should serve me which i find shocking as i work in retail and i would never do this! My mother shouted me over as she had found a young boy to help us, he was very nice and very helpful. I dont like this store and think the staff are terrible (apart from the young boy who actually bothered to help)
