Rented Twice Cars..both Had Display Issues So That

Rented twice cars..both had display issues so that you cant hear radio or other media.. they told us that they never had those issues. They are not willing to help, just told us they will contact and help us..now we are waiting more than one week and still..nothing changed.

We Rented Two Cars That We Checked When We Colecte

We rented two cars that we checked when we colected them. Both cars were used and had some scratches and dents in them. We know the drill and showed every little scratch and dent we could find. All in all we were happy with both cars and had no problems. Proir to returning we cleand the interiors of both cars and were happy that it all went great. However when we returned both cars they found »new scratch and dent« that we did not create. Before we got both cars we showed them both the scratch and the dent and there were so many that they simply put X mark on one area of the car.

Fot the damadge that they were saying was not marked right near the X sign we would have to pay 5.000 MUR for each car. We did not want to give any money since we took great care of the car. The guy would not listen to us and made many phone calls. He trethreatened us with police and we said to call the police.

At first the guy made around 3 calls and said that police won't come to the hotel since they don't have time and we have to go to the police station. We said we won't go anywhere. Another 2 calls and police arrived in 1 minute.

The police was very polite and said we do not have to pay anything since we did not commit any accident. And also that our case is not police matter. So police left and the guy still insisted that we give him 10.000 MUR for the damadge that was on the car. We then negotiated by the phone with »the boss« and gave them 3.000 MUR for both cars without signing any papers or anything. 

We highly advise you to check AND MARK ALL THE SCARTCHES AND DENTS BY YOURSELF. And also to take many photos of the car before you take it. We rented many cars before and this was the first time we rented a car by Maki Rentals and this happened. We do not recommend this car rental company – but if you do decide to choose them, please be carefull and do your own check of the car!

Smoothest Car Rental Ever!

They met me at the arrival gate, and the departure gate. No pain in the ass van to take you 10 minutes away. Smooth contact using the app so could chat through wifi so no cost.

Very polite. Immaculate car. Honestly the best rental I have ever had.

Can't Respond To Simple Flight Delay, Chaos Ensues.

It looked great at first, the booking and website itself worked flawlessly. The confirmation emails with links to add booking tickets to iOS Passport looked like a nice touch as well.

Things started to go wrong when my flight got delayed. I found out as I tried to board. I frantically email and make international phone calls trying to get a hold of maki to ask them what I should do. No response. I spend the next **THREE DAYS** trying to get a hold of them waiting for a response.

When I finally get a reply it's things like this:

"I am sorry for the late reply but unfortunately our office is not open 24/7.

As per my phone conversation with our partner, you have already informed them about the postponed flight. Also as per them, you will contact them again as soon as you know your new arrival details so that our partner can check if he can make the necessary changes.

Wishing you a nice day ahead."

Then silence again until:

"I regret to inform you that your booking request has just been rejected by our partner in Mauritius. I'm afraid that our partner does not have any car available due to an extension."

This was as I was boarding the rescheduled flight.

I could have paid to hold the car, in my head the interaction should have gone like this:

Day 0: Hello my flight was delayed

Day 1: Ok we will reschedule, but you need to prepay to hold the car, here's the link.

Day whenever I arrive: no stress continue to use the car as planned.

Efficient And Great Value

I recently hired a car for a two week holiday in Mauritius. I spent some time researching the alternative car hire options and made my decision to go with Maki based on the reviews posted online plus the overall cost. I was not disappointed and would have no hesitation in recommending them to others. Their prices are very competitive and there were no hidden annoying extras for CDW or additional driver etc.The comms from Maki were excellent and the car was virtually brand new and spotless. Could not have been happier. Thank you.

Cheap, Efficient, Good Car

We hired a small Suzuki car for two weeks, They were by far the cheapest deal, included a free satnav which is pre loaded with travel tips about places of interest.

The car we had was virtually new, clean and economical. The pick up and drop off was effortless. We downloaded their app at home and it was helpful.

We had an early pick up and drop off and the car was ready and waiting for us, we waited a couple of minutes for someone to meet us at drop off but they arrived and sorted us out quickly. Be sure to top up fuel before the airport as there isn't a garage in the airport ant you will be penalised if it isn't as full as when you collected it, but that is the same for all firms. I would happily use Maki again and recommend to others.

Ageing Rental Car

Having read all the reviews I was disappointed to find that we had been allocated a ten year old Mitsibushi Lancer with over 130,000 miles on the clock. Its previous life had been a taxi so not the best vehicle to hire. Lots of knocks & scrapes on the bodywork, coupled with a gutless, overworked engine. The only good thing going for it was the air conditioning. The sat nav was one of the old stick on windscreen jobs which was as good as useless. Reverted to good old map reading.

Ticked All My Boxes

Good value for money service. Vehicle was supplied on time by local agents Travel Point Tours (Mtius) Ltd and although not a new vehicle it did us fine. The inclusion of a sat nav was priceless when visiting various parts of this beautiful island. I would not hesitate using this company again. It made a refreshing change after the last car hire with Goldcar caused me grief. Beware if you have to drive through Port Louis during rush hour.....it made my hair stand on end and I am bald!!!

Unexpectedly Great

Apart from a few issues finding the guy at the airport, rest was great. He was super friendly, the Hyundai i20 was brand new, and the GPS even spoke to you about attractions as you drove past them. One issue- GPS had broken a bit and you couldn't stick it to the screen. When we came to drop the car off we were early, but he was already there waiting for us. Smoothest car rental I've ever had, and there's been a lot! Spent a lot of time researching which company to choose and glad it paid off because this one was cheaper and great.

Ok But Not Helpfull With The Puncture

All went well with the collection but was told the travel time was 45 minutes or so in effect was double that time. Had a puncture and phoned Maki they did not want to know. got it repaired and paid for it myself. Handback was a bit of a nightmare as was not to sure where to return the car but eventually found it. Summing up it did the job.

I hired a small car from them for 3 weeks in March 2015. No problems with the car, we were met at Arrivals and the car was waiting very nearby.On our departure, we dropped the car off at the same place; it's a small, friendly airport and no fuss about parking there.

The only snag was that we were promised a free satnav which was not available. I had pre-purchased (from Amazon a detailed map of the island which was essential.
