Daikin Altherma Hybrid Heat Pump

We bought a Diakin Altherma Hydronic system for our underfloor heating. The first couple of years the system worked OK and has some nice features. It seemed to be pretty efficient. However the system has proved to be unreliable. Under warranty it needed a new compressor and two new control panels. Now just out of warranty and the water pump failed. We live in NZ and there is terrible support for Diakin products in this part of the world. It is going to take about 3 months to get the part from Europe and it will be $1400 fitted. That is 10% of the system cost. In the mean time we live in a cold house with little heating. If only I could wind the clock back and choose any other product but not Diakin. It is proving unreliable in the long term and very expensive to fix with very verypoor support.

I've had a new system in since October and it has broken down four times. When i eventuall get an engineer to attend he doesn't have the part. The gas valve was replaced a few weeks ago and has broken again. Fitter turned up today without the new valve. I feel I'd like to have the whole system removed and get my money back

It took just under 2 weeks from purchasing this product, then having my house assessed to see if the radiators that I had and fortunately still have were suitable for this new System.

I was pleased and surprised how quickly we were getting our heat pump so fast!

Within 2 weeks the fitters had arrived to start work and were keen to keep me in the loop as they progressed. The were friendly which relaxes you and you adapt to your house being a bit different for a couple of days.The 2 fitters came early in the morning and worked until quite late in the evening, both the two days they spent fitting our hybrid system.

They decided and explained to me why they had chosen a spot on the outside wall,

level with my loft to install the latest renewable energy air to water heat pump.They said it was the most efficient system available for gas and LPG boiler replacement.They professionally covered the copper piping in a warm sleeve, suitable when the cold weather strikes. They progressed through the wall, then the loft and finally made a whole to access the cupboard where they had removed the old inefficient boiler and replaced it with a high efficiency gas boiler, much cleaner and attached to the back wall of the cupboard, where it rests looking splendid. There are some tips given by the fitters and these are not difficult to understand.

They flushed out the muck in the old boilers and this also checks how many leaks you may have in your radiators. I had one, which amazingly I fixed myself.

The old radiators are now more efficient but that has mainly been the coupling with this smashing Hybrid system.

The final part in my thinking was the very neat installation of a little computerized viewing panel that flags up a problem, which you may find you can fix yourself. If not you can phone up the head office and get any one of the polite ladies who work there. The are very helpful and make sure things get done!! But getting back to the viewing panel you can do as little or quite a lot to keep your hybrid system going. you can set your heat to warmer, cooler, on a timer system which is more efficient to use for the person at home.There are brochures, manuals and lastly a clear customers guide made up by someone from the office at Superseal.

My lasting memory is turning on the hot tap in the bath and filling it up and slipping into cosy hot water. Cosy and warm like the whole Daikin Altherma Hybrid Heat Pump System, great for my family and me!!

The system is very compact in the house and well placed outside. I like the system. Details of how to work the system were explained carefully and questions patiently answered.The fitters were extremely polite as well as being tidy and efficient workers.The inspection was extremely thorough and all questions were answered clearly and patiently .Any problems are dealt with quickly either by sending a fitter out or speaking you through problem on the phone.

The benefits of the system should become apparent in Winter.

The installation of the system from start to finish - salesman , surveyor, fitters/fitting, inspection - was excellent. All of my questions ( and there were many before I decided to have the system fitted ) were answered to my satisfaction.I never felt under pressure.
