Remember Who's Money The Account In Credit Belongs To!

When you're in credit by a substantial margin it's a good feeling; you've got that buffer for the winter cost, and you know you can request a refund when you need it.... Try doing that and expect a quick response from Octopus! I've been waiting NINE working days since I received a email from a robot saying it was being 'reviewed for approval' (what is there to approve, it's MY bl00dy money you modern day pirates!). My bank can transfer money from one bank to another within minutes, why can't Octopus do this when I request a refund?

Octopus were rated highly by Which? When I signed up to them years ago. How times have changed - get too big, then forget your roots and behave like all of the other major Energy suppliers and upset your customers. Well done Octopus!

You can adjust your payments online if you log into their portal, it is really easy to do and they do not question it. It is a good way of reducing the excess balance you have with them.

Very Disappointing Method Of Increasing Prices

I have today received an email form Octopus increasing my electricity payment by almost 50%. I am currently in debit by (according to Octopus £7.15, but according to the atual bills they have sent me £2.92). Octopus however wish to increase my payments from £65 per month to almost £90. This is to "help me manage my balance". I take exception to this for a number of reasons. Firstly I am a tiny amount in debit. Octopus have previously assured me this is normal for "this time of year". Secondly, they have not published the actual price increases to me, so this looks to be, at best, an estimate.. Thirdly, Octopus seem to like and, indeed, encourage the customer to mange their account and payments etc. However, in this instance they have chosen a rather bullying route to make extra money. Traditionally one pays for the electricity one has used and is not expected to pay "in advance" to help maximise a companies' profits (imagine sitting in a restaurant and being given the bill before ordering "lest you eat more that you thought you might", one would not accept that situation).

I will, of course, be looking to change my supplier from Octopus with immediacy.

Don't Believe The Advertising Hype!

When we started with Octopus Energy we believed the hype. What a big mistake to make. I have never known an energy company to be as bad as these guys. They 'say' they are going to do something, but they don't get around to doing it. Even when you bring the problems to their attention, they never get around to actually fixing or doing anything! It is all talk. They remind me of an old saying, 'EMPTY VESSELS MAKE THE LOUDEST NOISE'

As soon as the fuel price crisis sorts itself out we will be moving to another company. All I can say is DO NOT SIGN UP TO THIS COMPANY! You have been warned.

Try getting a refund from them when you have healthy credit with them. It's my £ücking money but they drag their feet in refunding.

Excellent Customer Service And Very Understanding If Things

Hi,

Well I have been with just about every Gas and Electric supplier out there, I was about to reside to the fact that none of these company's cared not one bit about my disability payments which are every 3 weeks with a fourth week that I have nothing which makes direct debits very difficult to manage. I am writing this to praise the team at Octopus especially the H2 team whom helped me work out a repayment amount that I could afford and advise me that I could me weekly payments on their app thus not needing to worry about the payment cycle that the DWP have put me on.

It is so refreshing to know that when I have an issue Octopus Energy are understanding and helpful instead of most of the other energy company's.

Thank you Octopus.

They Make Mistakes, And Don't Respond To Emails

They made a mistake on my account (not for the first time!), and I was unable to phone them about it as it was a weekend and their call centre was closed. I sent them an email, as they are supposed to have 'award winning email support' which deals with emails 7 days a week with a fast response time - but several days later I had had no response. I sent another email, and 3 days later still no response. A friend of mine had exactly the same experience with them. I will be switching to another supplier, and would definitely not recommend Octopus.

My experience with Octopus has been, sadly, very similar.

Do Not Touch

Do not touch this operation. It does not comply with it's legal and contractual obligations as an electricity supply operation. You have been advised.

Issue Still Resolved After 12 Months!

In January 2019 my elderly mother moved to a retirement complex. I transferred her electricity to Octopus (the property is electricity only). Octopus asked me toad the meter, which I duly did. Octopus asked us a month later to read the meter again and it was apparent the meter was not recording her usage. I contacted Octopus who were very helpful and arranged for the meter to be replaced.

Sadly from there on I it was a different story. It took months for the Octopus to actually arrange for the meter change. On the appointed day the meter engineer did not turn up. It took weeks to get an explanation and a rebook.

To cut a long story short it took 11 months to get the meter changed and, in order to reach that point I had to write direct to their CEO.

As my mother was without accurate billing for a year Octopus estimated her annual bills and, as a result of there tardy correction of the situation gave her a fair amount of compensation in the form of credit.

Recently my mother has been contacted again and asked for meter reading (please bear in mind this is a Smart meter that should send readings directly, and that she is housebound and unable to pop out to read the meter very easily).

mother explained to Octopus that reading the meter is difficult as in addition to disability she is shielding from Coronavirus. No problem say Octopus any chance of a family member sending a photograph to check the meter is working. Yep no problem.

Her is the but part - after a year of not amending her payment a member of staff emailed her today to change her tariff to a new one, one she had not asked for and one that is considerably more expensive.

To sum up, a year to get a meter changed, 15 month Slater they haven't sorted the billing and now she is being pressurised to take a more expensive tariff.

I can honestly say Octopus has provided the worst energy supply experience that anyone I know has ever had.

A further update, we are in the process of transferring my mother to a different supplier as Octopus simply cannot get their act sorted out. They were asked to move her to "actual" payment (ie pay each bill in full). This has taken them over a month despite promising to do it straight away. Can their service get any worse I wonder?

Octopus Energy A Good Move

Hi,

I have just signed up to Octopus Energy. My son gave me a referral code and we both have received £50.00 credit. So it works!

I signed up because of his experience with Octopus, which has been very positive.

Great customer relations

One of the lowest tariffs for my postcode

Renewable energy

£50.00 referral code system

No exit fees

Smooth transition from my previous supplier

If you have decided to sign up to Octopus, it would be great if you could use my referral code below and we will both receive £50.00 credit. simply copy and paste it into your browser and away you go.

Sorry to hear your experience. My experience has been really good and continues to be.

Fussyfellow

My experiences are the polar opposite of yours. Octopus seem to be okay if no changes etc are required, but if any sort of problem arises they are utterly dreadful.

Sorry - My Experience Is Not Good

Octopus have taken over my account from Coop energy who were dreadful. Octopus do get back to you (but you have to nudge them). However, they have not been able to carry out a simple admin task after a week's communication. It looks very poor. I will have to change to a big supplier as they seem to have a bigger capacity. The small suppliers cannot cope despite the regulator saying people should change.

Sadly this has also been my experience. OK if things are going fine, absolutely useless if any kind of problem arises.

This Is The One?

After a lot of research (including company house accounts) I felt that Octopus energy was trustworthy, stable and reliable. Look at their blogs about taking over all the Iresa energy customers. Easy no problem switch. Nice and clear website. After switching twice in the past 3 years - I may have found my last energy company.
