Gold Lion KT88 Re-issue by New Sensor

First let me say that the Re-issue Gold Lion KT88 made by “New Sensor” should not in any way be confused with the old Genalex make which is superior in everyway.

It’s generally accepted that the Re-issue Gold Lion uses the same inners as the Electro-Harmonix (EH), made at the same factory.

While the EH 88 remains a standard reliable replacement, it’s Gold Lion Brother has some problems! Why this is the case is a mystery, maybe down to poor assembly?

However the Gold Lion can sound quite nice, certainly a big step up from standard Shuguang valves used in most Chinese amps, but sadly their reliability is no better than the Shuguang 88, both can be a gamble to use!

If your amp has manual bias check it ever hour for the first 8 hours, they can swing about all over the place, should you be brave enough you try a set?

If your lucky & bag a good set of Gold Lions then great, but it’s a lucky dip, get a bad set & they could easily damage your amp.

Don’t be fooled by the name! or any sales hype, their no match for the original.

If you want reliability try the EH or the original Winged “C” from St Petersburg not the New Sensor “SED” which is OK, but the original “C” is better.

You pay’s your money & makes your choice, if your loaded buy the Psvane KT88-T Ref tubes………..wonderful………just wonderful

This Re-Issue it trying to live on past glory of it’s forerunner (Genalex), which it’s no match for, purchase is a gamble, you might get a good set or not……..
