Iriver Slimx Well Well , How Many Of You Guys Out
iRiver Slimx
Well well , how many of you guys out there have had a real blast (and real lucky indeed) to start out with "SLIMX" as your first mp3 player.? lucky ! i should say,
The SLiMEx simply delivers what it advertises, Cool Looks, Features, Durability, and what not !!
By the time you'r reading this review, you'd have probably been thru a 1001 other reviews ..so bored? well, don't be , cos when your going to get your own SlimX, I bet you'd write your own review...:)
The SLIMX is a multi codec , cd Player with an upgradable Firmware which simply translates out to the fact that not only does it play the current MP3, WMA , ASF fomats but also could be upgraded to comply with other newer and better formats like mp3 pro , ogg vorbis etc..
The Player itself is thin, about 16.66 mm and the best part of all, it comes with an ultra cool remote with a high resolution LCD and a super cool blue backlight. Spend some time with the manual and there's not going to be any problem mastering the remote....
I've read reviews that have mentioned small transparents stickers included , meant for being stuck on the remote display to prevent it from getting scratched ,,but hey , i didn't get any !!! well anyways ,the normal "CLING ON" microwave food wrap makes an excellent cover for the remote...just cut out a small piece and wrap your remote with it !
Any of you guys ever wondered why the unit is designed with a metal lid ??? well apart from being able to deliver ultra cool looks, and durabilty, the metal lid infacts functions as an ANTENNA For the the FM radio, and enables better radio reception (one design concept, that they thought could be kept a secret :) )
Another important feature about the player is that, unlike the normal Audio Cd player that keeps on spinning the entire time its used for playing, the SLIMX firsts buffers the entire song into its memory and then reads from the memory, this feature enables songs to be played skip free, saves on battery power (esp if you happen to play the same track over and over again) and also prolongs the MTBF (life) of the hardware motors and the laser....
And finally, for the price that i had played (equalent to 160 $) i'd be insane to ask for something more.....:)
The SLIMX IS worth every penny you pay for it.....
Review is helpful.. but where do you purchase it from.? can you really get it in India?

Cd Based Mp3 Players Like The Iriver Slimx Kick As
CD based MP3 players like the iRiver SlimX kick ass when compared to Solid State and HD (Hard Drive) based solutions.
Solid State memory is way too expensive when the cost of blank cd is only £.35
HD based solutions don't give you the flexibility to play on other formats. In my case I can use the MP3 CD in the Car, DVD or Slim X and I can also loan the CD to friends. Try that with your HD solution.
quite a good point made

I Have Wanted A Home Radio And Cd For The Car For
i have wanted a home radio and cd for the car for a while now... but not to lose my tape deck.
i wanted to tell you about my new toy, the slimX portable MP3 player from iRiver
it can play regular cd's (duh!)
i can load somewhere between 8 and 12 albums worth of MP3 music at 192kbs "cd quality" onto a single cd
i can save winamp playlists (up to 20 for each disk) to the disk with the files, and tell it to play a certain album, or random shuffle between albums, or random shuffle within an album, or...
it shows the MP3 tag info as it plays the track, i can also browse folders i make on the cd with tracks in it.
i can toggle between playing cd's and FM radio and when i switch off the system and start again, it starts exactly where it left off, does a little fade up to start with.
it can also play rewriteable cd's, so i can make compilations for events, and burning a full cd of music takes less than 5 minutes
when new codecs come out, like MP3 PRO (half size, or twice quality for same size) the player is firmware upgradeable, so i download a new firmware, burn it to cd (rewriteable, of course) and upgrade.
i use it to play radio in the morning, and will get an adapter to play it via the cassette deck in the car. It is the smallest MP3 able CD player in the world, and it is MINE!!!
check it out at http://www.iriveramerica.com, its gorgeous...
